Advantages: screen saver, bit rate indicator

Disadvantages: sparce features

Sony's 1999 DVD player S330 is not a bad buy for such a reasonable price. Its feature set is fairly sparse in comparison with low-buck offerings from Toshiba (the SD-2109) and Pioneer (the DV-414), but this new Sony earned build quality.

Unlike the two players above, the 330 doesn't have component video outputs. This isn't an immediate issue unless you've got an appropriately-equipped display, but for £50 more the Sony DVP-S530D throws in component outs and a much fuller list of other
features too.

The 330 does have some niceties unique to Sony, namely SmoothScan and SmoothSlow searches. Other convenience features encompass automatic selection of the soundtrack with the highest number of channels, a screen saver, a bit rate indicator, and bit rate history display. The remote controls many brands of TVs, as well as the volume level of 8 brands of A/V receivers. Overall, I'd highly recommend it!
