Advantages: all the features you need with good quality

Disadvantages: only the remote controls size

I upgraded from a cheaper machine to the Sony dvd725 and I must admit I didn't think that there would be such a difference in overall quality between the two machines.
The Sony is quite a good looking machine that is available in standard black or brushed silver finish. The first thing that strikes you when you spin a dvd in the Sony is the bright vivid colours that it outputs, the whites are outstanding (look like they've been washed with persil)
the picture is vibrant to say the least, it would be difficult to imagine the picture could be better.
The sony has an onboard 5.1 decoder so you can hook it up to your amp that has 5.1 pre-outs and enjoy dolby digital sound at its best without shelling out for a dedicated amp.
There is also included some of Sony's brilliant dsp modes to enhance the sound further, which are usually only found on Sony's amps.
I must point out though that the Sony does not have an onboard DTS decoder, it can only have a dts signal pass through it from another source.
The on screen displays are a plenty too with options I have never seen on cheaper machines, you can even see how many bits per second the sony is transferring, probably options we wouldn't normally use, but at least they are there...you have options to reduce picture noise (helps sometimes if the disc may have colour staining)all other standard features are there too, bookmarking,muti-angle viewing, disc labelling etc.
the remote included with the 725 it has to be said is a bit of a brick, but it has to be said it has everything you need to enjoy the features from your armchair...including a nifty jog shuttle to advance the frames one by one, it go's nicely too if you have a sony tv or amp as it will control various functions of these too...
All in all you cannot go too far wrong with this machine, especially at some of the prices it has been seen recently....£299 or £349 with multi region....but then again Sony have bought
out an updated machine the SONY 735..so expect the 725 to dissappear in the near future

I am thinking of buying a DVD player. This opinion has made me think about my choice more carefully.
