Advantages: Great in Everything

Disadvantages: Will be replaced soon

Sony's first line of DVD players were nothing special, but they did have an excuse. They were made when DVD was not very big and no-one knew what standards were going to win. But Sony's second generation of DVD players (the first real affordable ones) were very good.

The 725 is the flagship of the range with built in Dolby Digital Decoder and more handy little feature than I can list.

I do not own this player but have used it at work extensively and have tried it on lots of different TV's including the 32" 100Hz WEGA from Sony. This shows the difference between the picture of an Orian £180 DVD and the Sony 725. You can actually see the difference in picture quality.

The Sony's built on decoder is also very good for a built on decoder but still not up to the standards of the higher end external decoders. But with this player all you need is a 5 channel amp with the 5 channel inputs and a full Dolby digital set-up is ready.

All in all this player screams quality from picture to sound to all the extra features that are built in.

And as Sony are steadily replacing the range you may find this as a bargain in some high street stores. (It is £399 @ Powerhouse)
