I made mine multi region myself after buying a mod kit for about £15 from dvdchips. This required some soldering and although I have absolutely no previous knowledge or experience with electronics the instructions that came with the kit helped me to manage it with out melting my player. Crowned Review Toshiba SD 100: Fantastic DVD player for a knock-down price (1273 words)

The only thing better than getting your first DVD player is getting your second one - ‘cos now you’ve got something to compare it to! My first player was a Limit (no, I’d never heard of them, either) as recommended by Richer Sounds. It fitted my budget of £200, so I took it home. It did the job very well until it came unstuck with my "Chicken Run" DVD; it kept freezing at a certain part and I was informed that it was a generic problem with that model. The one they offered me in its place was the Toshiba SD-100E. Personally, I couldn’t care less about the look of my audio/video equipment, but for those of you who do, ...  Read the complete review

The Toshiba SD100E was the second DVD player I have bought and in my opinion for the price it is the DADDY! For the price you can not get a better DVD player, it is a well known brand and it was at the time under £200 normally in this price range you would get a make you have never heard off. The main reason I bought the SD100E was the fact that it had been in ‘WHICH’ magazine as their months-star buy and for the price as well who was I to complain. When I got it home and hooked it up which was very easy, all I needed to do was scart it to the TV I immediately played The Matrix, which I had problems playing on my previous player. The playback ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Toshiba SD 100: Superb Value (122 words)

The picture quality on this unit is stunning, the sound through a dolby pro-logic tv is amongst the best I have heard. A few features which were not a selling point to me have turned out to be a godsend, the best in my opinion is the feature which boosts the quieter sounds giving a more even soundscape, those which were extremely quiet before are now at a better level. Recent price drops to around £240 make this well worth the extra £60 on the budget Wharfedale and Samsung units. There are minor drawbacks but these are so minor, i.e. small buttons on the remote and sometimes delays between pressing a command and the actual function being completed by the player. Buy one ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Perfect place to start (275 words)

I am not really a hardware or home cinema obsessive - I wanted to be able to watch DVDs because I love movies, and had seen some releases like 'Bridge on the River Kwai' and 'Spartacus' available that I had only ever watched on television, in pan and scan. I bought this just before Christmas from Dixons (it was on offer at £200, though I've seen a lot of different prices). Most of the magazines and the few people who I know who have them said it was simple to use and very good value, so I bought it. I didn't want to spend ages researching, because at the moment, I just want to see the discs. I already had a huge telly with some ...  Read the complete review

Premium Review Toshiba SD 100: Getting Cheaper and Cheaper. (211 words)

This player is the replacement for the great SD2109 and all that has changed is the colour and remote control, and I think the change actually makes this player worse. The colour change is not a problem but the remote is smaller and has less buttons. Instead more is done through menus. Some people like this but myself I prefer to just press a button rather than searching through layers and layers of menus to just zoom in. But apart from the above this player is every bit as good as the 2109. The picture is just as sharp ranking up with the £350 players and the sound is good weather it be from the stereo output or the digital bitstreem (optical or ...  Read the complete review
