I am not really a hardware or home cinema obsessive - I wanted to be able to watch DVDs because I love movies, and had seen some releases like 'Bridge on the River Kwai' and 'Spartacus' available that I had only ever watched on television, in pan and scan.

I bought this just before Christmas from Dixons (it was on offer at £200, though I've seen a lot of different prices). Most of the magazines and the few people who I know who have them said it was simple to use and very good value, so I bought it. I didn't want to spend ages researching, because at the moment, I just want to see the discs. I already had a huge telly with some surround-sound speakers - nothing to complex, but better than a bog standard TV. I bought a scart lead and that was that.

I am completely satisfied - the picture quality and sound is infinitely better than a video or TV broadcast. I haven't had any problems with DVDs freezing or funny little blobs appearing - which I know happens with other players. The handset seems fine - I have real terms of reference but it's simple to get the film on or access the extras, and te little beeping noise that accompanies each action at least lets you know what you're up to.

I know I'm nowhere near having a home cinema - that will come later when I can afford it - but at the moment, I can heartily recommend this player to anyone who wants to get their feet wet with a DVD player.
