My experience of Toshiba products

The majority of the time I am thrilled to purchase Toshiba products I own a Toshiba satellite laptop and a Toshiba television of which I am very happy with the overall quality and lifespan. In the past I promoted Toshiba products to my friends and family for their high quality and durability. Though I have to admit they are usually more expensive than other makes such as JVC or Phillips.

However in the case of this DVD player I cannot say I am 100% satisfied.

Packaging

The box and outer packaging was pretty much standard cardboard with the model details and item itinerary on the side and a black and white image of the product itself. It also came in polystyrene casing and little plastic bags to keep the dust off and to stop the player being bashed which was appreciated.

Extras

The DVD player came with a manual in multiple languages as well as a remote control which is very easy to use with labels either on or under each button. It also matches the DVD player in colour being black so it is easy to identify if you have multiple electronic products with many remote controls.
The DVD player is region two only which means it only plays DVDs from Ireland, UK and Australia which was fair enough since we purchased it from Tesco's for around £20 and the display model liked very slim so it would fit neatly under our television in the cabinet. We were also very satisfied with the price as Toshiba products are usually very expensive down to their high quality standards.

Pros

The visual quality is to a very high standard and I have never had any experience of the player scratching or damaging the discs, I am pretty sure that it also plays CDs as well, though we have a separate CD player with a better sound system so I personally have not used it for that purpose. The buttons on the front include and on/off, play/pause and a fast forward/rewind. This I found wasn't awfully convenient however for when the batteries of the remote went dead and you wanted to access complicated on screen menus, though it was convenient if you couldn't find the remote controller in a hurry and needed to pause a movie in a hurry. The DVD was extremely easy to set up via scart lead and easy to switch over from your television box or gaming console.

Cons

The DVD player was severely noisy to playing almost to the point where it distracted you from watching your film or Television show. The infra-red system between the player and the controller is either damaged or very weak, in which case you have to bend and stretch to aim it at the correct angle to make use of the remote control at all.

Overall

It did not meet my expectations; I am usually pleasantly surprised by Toshiba products. However in this case I was very unpleasantly surprised and have had a better experience with DVD players from unknown practically non-existent names and models, though it still works efficiently the noise is just too much for me to take and I now largely use my laptop these days to play DVDs because of it.
