Advantages: Price, Price, er...Price
Disadvantages: Sound may crackle, Bit ugly
After rave reviews on the web and in magazines I finally succumbed to the Wharfedale 750s from TESCO. This was not my first experience with budget DVD players after auditioning several duff 'CYBERHOME' DVD players from WH Smith. I dont want to come across as being cheap but cost does play a large factor in my buying decisions! Connection of the DVD is extemely straight forward and I was playing my first disk within minutes of unpacking the box. Picture quality is pin sharp on my Sony Wega TV which is pretty unforgiving to bad digital sources (On Digital...Ahem!). It has several features that are normally only found on the higher end players such as DTS sound and support for MP3 playback which I still cant get the hang of. For bargain seeking purists out there I will warn you about one thing about the sound. It may crackle... This is only slightly noticeable but once you hear it sometimes you find your ears listening out for it. I basically couldnt stand it so I called Tesco and they arranged for an engineer to come and collect the model to try and repair it. They gave up after 2 weeks and I was told to take it back to Tesco for replacement. This is fortunate as when I got it back it had a great big muddy footprint in the centre of it! Tescos were great about it and in fact as the price had reduced they gave me a partial refund also. When I got it back I was disappointed to find the same problem but 2 replacemts on I am happy as larry. So the moral is if you're a sound purist like me listen very closely....
