alltruism Sony RDR-HXD890B: ... unit is excellent. It gives a wide range of quality options so you can decide whether you want to go for top image quality or maximum recording time. You can record direct to DVD or to the built in hard drive. If you do record to the hard drive you can burn the recording to DVD later if you want, and play it in other players. The built-in Freeview works really well, and seems to be a lot more sensitive than the...

gunnerz Toshiba DR-150
... had this item for over a week before I had to return it. This was my 1st experience with DVD recorders and Toshiba in general and it wasn t any good at all. Firstly it takes over two minutes for the player to recognize what sort of disc has been inserted before it turns off and decides to keep the disc inside unless you open the cover and slid the tray out to retrieve it. Once the player does recognize the disc it takes another minute to actually start playing the disc. If it does start playing then unless you decide to pause or fast forward the disc then the DVD will play with no problems. When it comes to recording then the player is even worse. Although it takes less...

... have had this DVD recorder for over two and years and as always from Panasonic this product has been amazing. I picked it up as a refurbished item for only £60 expecting to replace it after a year with a hard drive version but since the time I turned it on I just wanted to keep it for as long as possible. There are two major drawbacks though, one of which is the lack of free view unless you have a Panasonic television which is compatible with the "Viera link", if you are lucky enough to own a television that is compatible then you can record free view programs although both units must be left on therefore only one channel can be watched and if you are going to...

Scotty9 Pioneer DVR-520H
... got this DVD/HDD recorder a few years ago and at the time it was one of the best solutions on the market. The main attraction was the hard disk drive where all the video recordings could be stored until you watched them or burned them to a DVD. This was hugely appealing as it negated the need to buy DVDs to use for mainstream recording. As a DVD player the machine provides very good quality and equally when recording to the hard drive. However, your storage capacity is affected by the recording quallity you choose. If using fine or SP mode then you won t be storing masses of video on the drive but still more than enough for normal recording situations. I prefer to use ...
