Topfield TF5800PVR ... is a great box. Nice and quiet running (no fan), with very crisp, clear pictures. One BIG proviso, though, which kept me from giving it the 5th star: Out of the box, the PVR was buggy, to say the least. In particular, it failed on our first 4 attempts to dual record (two programmes at once) and it wasn t reliable at starting a recording out of standby mode. Fortunately, there s Toppy.org, a users group who ve written firmware patches and TAPs (customisations) which solve the problems. Their site isn t the easiest to navigate, but you should be able to find what you need, connect your PC to the Topfield and get it working brilliantly. First, get the Windows int... Panasonic Diga DMR-EX88EG-K ... recorder with lots of functionality however at this price you would expect that !! Image quality is good and does everything you would want it too. Its a sleek black design which looks great with my black samsung tv. However there are many cheaper players which would do the job without having to spend this much money. Panasonic are a god make which offers quality - Good programme guide on the freeview player and the noise reductio detection really does seem to work - not really sure I understand how! Samsung DVD R136 ... NOT BUY THIS PIECE OF CRAP!!! My advice would be if you have or been given one for Xmas - take it the hell back and get a refund or exchange it for a NON Samsung DVD recorder. Samsung should be prosecuted for selling what is obviously a faulty machine! Plenty of reviews online ALL saying the same thing - it will NOT accept DVD-RW. So, not fit for purpose. Samsung will probably blame the consumer, as always. Well, FOUR brands of HIGH QUALITY BRAND NAMES, cleaning the lensas suggested on some sites DOES NOT WORK!
