Bought 7 months ago, DVD recorder has packed up, have been waiting nearly 1 month for LG and Seller (Euroski), decide whether to replace or give me my money back. Not user friendly, would not buy a LG produce again
Actually, I don't want to write a review about the LG RH277H, I want to write one about the LG DRT389H, which is just a DVD Recorder, but with both digital and analogue tuning. Before I start my review let me give you some background. My Daewoo 1000D packed-up on vision, which made it useless. I had forgotten that it was insured ! Anyway I discovered the policy and decided to get it checked, turned out to be knackered but the insurance company would supply me with a replacement of near equal features. Let em tell you, it was far, far better. It is the above named LG DRT389H, it is black, slim and records in both formats (+ & -) plus ram. It plays Audio CD, Video Cd, DivX,JPEG,MP3 or WMA, forgot to mention that it also records the newer dual-layer. In single layer it records at 1hr (XP), 2hr (SP), 4hr (LP), 6hr (EP) & 14hr (MLP). Yes, that is 14hours. The DVD+R DL (8.5GB) records at the folowing hours 3 hr(approx) (XP), 3.8hr (SP), 7.3hr (LP), 9.1hr (EP) & 21 hr in MLP mode. There are the usual connections at the rear, two scart, component, S-video, digital (Optical or Co-ax). A big surprise for a recorder of this price is that there is also a HMDI connection, when using the HMDI connector you have the capability to change the resolution ? (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p), when using the HMDI there is another feature called "Simplink) which means that some of the recorders functions can be controlled by the TV's remote (If it is an LG TVwith the Simplink function). Just found out that it is possible to connect toPAY-TV/Canal Plus Decorder via the units AV2 connection. I've found it very easy to use once set-up but to set-up you definitely need the handbook ! The record quality is good in all the modes I've tried (haven't tried the 14hr yet) the quality has been really good. DivX is easy once you understand the various displays (quality with that depends who did the recording). Audio CDs are great, excellent sound quality & it even found a "hidden" track on The Move's The Collection) which my other DVD Rec's hadn't. I haven't used the other features yet so "no comment". Value for Money ? You bet !! for me it was free, but I've seen it priced at £149.99 in my local CURRY's & COMET. For those on a medium-tight budget this is one for you. I've just re-read the manual and forgot to mention that under a flap on the lower right, front there is a USB Port for a Flash Drive, Sorry.
The old vhs are now outdated, this hdd - dvd recorder bring you all the features you have always wanted on such a device , it's very easy to use it even without reading the manual, the osd is pretty clear, has a low power consumption and is probably one of the more evolute of this kind.
Let's Start with the facts:
This device can only record on Hdd and then you can choose to burn the content you recorded on a dvd-r/rw/ram.
The recording time possible on such a device is:
XP(maximum quality): 43 hours / 132
SP(normal quality): 84 / 165
LP: 164 / 215
EP: 233 / 275
MLP: 477 / 429
the first is intended for mpeg2, the second for mpeg4, in mpeg4 you will not be able to use timeshifting and to watch what you are recording.
the dvd recording time for a normal dvd is:
it can of course use 8,5 GB dvd too
the quality of the recordings in (mpeg4) xp,sp,lp is 640x480, in ep 480x352, in mlp 352x256
The Recorder has 2 scart, s-video, hdmi exits, optical and coaxial for digital audio, in the front you find a dv input , and a usb interface for usb cards.
The nice part of this dvd is that allow you basically to do almost everything you do with a normal pc but even easier with the osd and you'll learn how to use it quickly seen the interface is very well done, the difference with a vcr is probably the fact you won't have to search for hours to find the right time of the recordings or loose time to use advance/back functions with a hdd you can do it fast enough just choose the recordings you have made from the interactive menu and it start in a second, want to see the movie after and hour of play ? just choose the time and you start seeing from there.
It can Record up to 16 programs/month and can record for the day/Monday to Friday or the whole week just by changing a line when you program it.
This device is able of course to use dvd/divx/video-super video cd/music cd/mp3/windows media(wma) and photographs(jpeg).
The Power consumption is of only 30 watts in use and 1 watt max in standby and even has a function for power saving that will take away the time on the front side when it is in standby or if you use it in a bedroom and you don't want anything that make even a tiny light.
