My New LG DRT 389H DVD Recorder and Insurance ! (LG RH277H)
Member Name: ToySoldier
Advantages: Use the manual & it's easy to use. Disadvantages: On-screen menu could be easier. Actually, I don't want to write a review about the LG RH277H, I want to write one about the LG DRT389H, which is just a DVD Recorder, but with both digital and analogue tuning. Before I start my review let me give you some background. My Daewoo 1000D packed-up on vision, which made it useless. I had forgotten that it was insured ! Anyway I discovered the policy and decided to get it checked, turned out to be knackered but the insurance company would supply me with a replacement of near equal features. Let em tell you, it was far, far better. It is the above named LG DRT389H, it is black, slim and records in both formats (+ & -) plus ram. It plays Audio CD, Video Cd, DivX,JPEG,MP3 or WMA, forgot to mention that it also records the newer dual-layer. In single layer it records at 1hr (XP), 2hr (SP), 4hr (LP), 6hr (EP) & 14hr (MLP). Yes, that is 14hours. The DVD+R DL (8.5GB) records at the folowing hours 3 hr(approx) (XP), 3.8hr (SP), 7.3hr (LP), 9.1hr (EP) & 21 hr in MLP mode. There are the usual connections at the rear, two scart, component, S-video, digital (Optical or Co-ax). A big surprise for a recorder of this price is that there is also a HMDI connection, when using the HMDI connector you have the capability to change the resolution ? (576i, 576p, 720p, 1080i or 1080p), when using the HMDI there is another feature called "Simplink) which means that some of the recorders functions can be controlled by the TV's remote (If it is an LG TVwith the Simplink function). Just found out that it is possible to connect toPAY-TV/Canal Plus Decorder via the units AV2 connection. I've found it very easy to use once set-up but to set-up you definitely need the handbook ! The record quality is good in all the modes I've tried (haven't tried the 14hr yet) the quality has been really good. DivX is easy once you understand the various displays (quality with that depends who did the recording). Audio CDs are great, excellent sound quality & it even found a "hidden" track on The Move's The Collection) which my other DVD Rec's hadn't. I haven't used the other features yet so "no comment". Value for Money ? You bet !! for me it was free, but I've seen it priced at £149.99 in my local CURRY's & COMET. For those on a medium-tight budget this is one for you. I've just re-read the manual and forgot to mention that under a flap on the lower right, front there is a USB Port for a Flash Drive, Sorry. Summary: Definitely worth its price.
