LG RH389H is a DVD-recorder with built-in HDD. The menus and set-up is easy and straight forward. The image quality both for the native 4:3 TV-format and the upscaled image to 16:9 would be good enough for most normal users. The Time-slip function, which enables you to skip over the commersial breaks is easy to handle.

The HDD-recording is easy and produces good quality playback. It is not possible to watch one TV-program, while recording another. This while the unit has only one tuner built-in. It's possible to watch DVD, or a film from the HDD during recording a TV-program.

I was VERY disapointed to find that this unit, built by LG in the year 2009, which cost about 200 Euros, came with a built-in analogue TV-reciever. Sweden and other contries in Europe has a digital broadcast network since many years and the analogue net has been shut down all since. Much of the functionality of the unit is built around the reciever, which now cannot be used. The work-a-round is the connect your stand-a-lone digital TV-box (or IP-TV-box) to the AV2 on the LG RH387H and record from that input. However, if your kids, wife, or husband comes home and changes channel on the TV-box, your recording gets ruined.
