Patience, where are you, I need you now! Oh my Dear Lord, this machine is a slow piece of equipment! I swear that my hair has grown a deeper shade of gray just by taking a glance at this machine, as it surely is a slow experience, and with that, quite a disappointing one!
I had rather high expetations towards this product, as it would allow me to record my favorite television programs, even on satelite, and so I decided on this gadget from Philips, but things very rapidly started disappointing and irritating me, from the very diffucult level of how to use this machine to how insanely and painfully slow it is! What`s the point in having several lovely features when it takes years to get it ready and up and running? I would also have to say that the picture, movie and sound quality is somewhat poor, it`s anything but crystal clear and impressive to watch and enjoy... Adding to the misery, this is an expensive product, and therefore one should be allowed to expect a whole lot more, as this ended up a major disappointment for me!
With a difficult learning guide, slow process and low video and audio quality, this became a bad purchase that I really don`t recommend doing, and all though it looks fancy, modern and stylish, don`t be fooled, this machine is likely to disappoint you!
Anything but impressing, this product from Philips receives little praise from me, two out of five...
I bought this Pilips the HD RW mainly because it allows to record programs (including satellite) by simply selecting them in the guide (Guide +). An infrared remote control system with (i-Link) simulates the remote decoder by controlling the satellite receiver, turning it on and selecting the appropriate channel when appropriate. Sounds like a fancy thing, right?
In reality it's so far so good. Unfortunately, the quality of the picture is markedly degraded from the original, definitely darker and less contrasted. In addition, many functions that are used frequently are hard to find when using the menu, requiring too much time to find what you need. And if this wasn't enought, the Guide and the menu respond too slowly, so you tend to lose interest in the function.
Then the schedules of Guide + does not include the channels that I watch more frequently (Fox and so forth). Since I paid a good amount of money more than six months ago, I'd say I'm not very happy with my purchase.
I should have bought a Panasonic, which has Guide + and i-link, but that seems to be more ergonomic and provide better video quality.
My husband bought this DVD recorder about six months ago now, and its a really good recorder. A little bit complicated to program. Then again I'm a woman so you never know!! I have seen other products on the market which do the same thing which are easier on the eyes! Also to bear in mind - you get what you pay for! Installation becomes more complicated if you have other media attached to your television - this is what we struggled with.
Overall I am happy with the purchase and would recommend it.
