Advantages: Great interface, good picture using component
Disadvantages: no upscaler and no HDMI
I inherited this item from my aunt as she couldnt get it to work, turns out it has a common fault with the hard drive on it.
So my experiences with it when it was working were very good. The player has a very nice interface as most sony products do. Output wise its very equipt, on the back you have 2 Scart sockets, 1X component progressive out, 1x red, white and yellow composite out, on the front is a composite an S-Video input and a DV input to link your sony camcorder to.
The player plays dvds very nicely with little disk loading times. The picture quality is very good considering the price of the DVR. The tuner built in isnt that great as its only analogue but this isnt to much of a problem as there are 2 scart inputs for recording digital TV.
The only downside to this product is the Hard drive fault i've experienced, this is easily repaired by buying a new 160gb drive and fitting it only i havent got round to doing it. The player becomes fully unusable when the hard drive is broken, the dvd player itself is perfectly fine, but when you turn it on it gives you the message 'HDD Error' rendoring the player useless.
I would say that this player is very nice but i would advise you to buy something a little more dated because this doenst have HDMI and were all getting ready for HD content, so no upsampler here
overall 3*
