Advantages: Easy-to-use, so many functions, has lasted for years.
Disadvantages: Takes a bit longer than I like to turn on.
This has been out family dvd player/recorder for several years now, and in the time it has served us well.
I can't say much about the actual task of conecting it to your tv, as I had no part in that, but I have been told by my father that it was quite easy, and I believe the other review says as much.
The DVD player takes about 29 secons to turn on and get fully loaded. From there you can choose the DVD or the Hard-drive (HDD) function.
The DVD functions allows you to pop your DVD in and play it. Loading of the DVD is really quick once the player is on, and the picture and sounds quality is quite good.
The HDD function is really what makes this DVD player stand out for me. From here there are several functions:
Firstly you can view a tv guide, which tells you all of the programmes that are on, both today, and about a week in the future. From here you are also able to set programmes to record with the press of the red button. By pressing the yellow button you can view all of the programmes that you have set to record, and extend the time (for example if you want to make sure you don't miss the end of a film).
You can also choose to look at the actual hard drive, which shows you all of the things that you have already recorded. You have 160 GB of storage space, and I find that a 2 hours film is about 3.4 - 4 GB, so there is plenty of space for all of your stuff.
This is also where you are able to burn DVDs. Its a very simple and self explanatory process to do. You just pop in your blank DVD, go to the list of all recorded items, and select the one you want to burn to DVD.
What I think is great is that you can cut the breaks out of any films that you have recorded, whether they be at the beginning, at the end or in the middle. Not only does this allows you to cut down the size of films so they fit on one disk, but it also means when you come watch it again, you don't have to constantly skip through the breaks
There's a whole load of features that make this DVD player versatile and so suitable for its purpose. I have never had any issues with it, and have to say its one of my favourite pieces of technological equipment.
Summary: A great little product that will have a place in any family home.
