Advantages: its a sony

I bought this dvd recorder about seven or eight months ago. I'm a bit of a sony fan, and prior to buying this model, I owned a previous model which didn't have a hard disc drive.

I thought this would be a cheap alternative to sky plus.

To an extent, this does deliver the goods, but its not without its flaws.

The pros:

Decent storage space, good picture quality, HD upscaling

The cons:

Interface is not great, in fact its really quite poor.

Series link doesnt always work

TV guide facility is aweful, and looks like a throwback to old-school teletext.

I really wanted to like this product, I bought a sony W series HD TV and thought that this would complement it nicely, however if I am honest, this really is a poor mans sky plus, and its mainly the interface that lets it down, I'm usually quite techy, but it took me a good while to get my head round this player.

On the whole, its good, so if you can get one cheap, go for it. But, don't buy it and expect sky plus, as you will be mightily dissapointed!

Come on sony, you can do much better!!

My advice?

Wait and see what sony PS3's TV recorder is like when it comes out later in the year!
