Sony RDR-GX210/S ... was the first DVD recorder I ever purchased and did so based partly on the brand name, Sony, and partly on the features of the machine. It is fully compatible with all other electronic devices including VHS machines, AV receivers (such as Freeview boxes, top-up tv boxes etc). I have the device connected to my digital television via a Freeview box so I can record programs playing on the Freeview box whilst watching another channel on my television. The machine is silver and is quite large, sitting about 2 1/2 inches high on slightly raised legs. It is about 17 inches wide across the front. There are some really good features of the Sony RDR-HX980 DVD Recorder in this regard. It also has provisions for music management through USB or CD s via traditional CD s or MP3. With the 250 GB Hard Drive of memory (HDD), it also elimates the cumbersome necessity for storage on disc, or as in the past, video tape. Sony RDR-HXD890B ... Sony RDR-HXD890 is both a Freeview Hard Drive recorder, and a DVD recorder, which has a current price of £174.80 from Amazon. The capacity of the hard drive is 160GB, which equates to roughly 23 hours in the high quality recording mode, and 455 hours on the lowest quality setting. The machine is labelled as being Freeview+ , which means you have the ability to pause and rewind live TV - handy for a quick trip to make a cuppa without missing anything.
