	Sony RDR-HXD870B ... enthusiast. After using the recorder (using the manual of course) I found it quite easy to navigate around the menus and settings screens and changing the configuration to what I needed was quite easy. It is very stylish and looks fabulous on a decent TV stand. I can also confirm that so far it has no reliability issues and has not blown up on me yet but you wouldn t expect that from a Sony product. ~ Specifications ~ It comes with a 160GB hard disk which can store a massive amount of data (programs/films) and supports all types of media and also all types of recordable DVD s and CD s. 	Sony RDR-HXD970B ... itself I found this machine next to useless. This recorder has only 1 decoder in it. That means you can only record one tv channel at any one time. This really limits you as often you find two or 3 good things on all at the same time on different channels. Also if you don t have a Sony tv then half of the features on this machine don t work - most importantly you can t record something and watch any other channel. That simply doesn t work if your tv isn t Sony as well. On the upside. This has a huge memory which means you are unlikely to run out of room on the harddrive. 	Sony RDR-HXD890B ... unit is excellent. It gives a wide range of quality options so you can decide whether you want to go for top image quality or maximum recording time. You can record direct to DVD or to the built in hard drive. If you do record to the hard drive you can burn the recording to DVD later if you want, and play it in other players. The built-in Freeview works really well, and seems to be a lot more sensitive than the one built into my TV, picking up more channels. Recording from the built-in program guide is easy - you can even get it to control your Sky box (via an included Guide+ infrared dongle) so that it can change to the right Sky channel for a timer recording.
