The name 'Amityville' brings two things immediately to mind. Firstly, an infamous fake/real bestselling book from about 20 years ago about a haunted house in America. Secondly, one of the worst franchises in horror film history, which somehow managed to vomit forth no less than 9 episodes. The series truly reached its nadir in 1996, with the almost unbelievably bad killer fly tale 'Amityville: Dollhouse'. 'Amityville 2: The possession' is undoubtedly the best of the series, and is actually a very good film in its own right. The first Amityville film was in my opinion a sort of decent horror film, though nothing special. However, the movie made plenty at the box office so obviously the filmmakers decided to make a sequel. Firstly let me state that I know that this is the wrong category but as yet there is no category for this dvd release of the Amityville Horror and this disk is a fairly new release in the UK. The True Story The reason that these series of movies were called Amityville was after the name of the town where the origonal incident occurred. Amityville, Long Island to be precise.
