A brief description of the film. Assault on Precinct 13 was John Carpenters second feature. It is based in a dark, gang infested LA setting within the confinds of a closing down police station. The dialog is hard boiled and sparse. If you like 1970's thrillers of the ilk of 'Get Carter' or 'The French Connection', or even 'The Warriors' you should like this. THe cast is small, but effective, along with the script and the lighting. THe violence, whilst not excessive, is as violence should be - brutal, nasty and not a pleasant thing. If a child being killed in cold blood (one shot, to the chest) is going to upset you dont watch, ...

Assault on Precinct 13 is an EXCELLENT movie and everyone should see it. After about 25 minutes or so, the film is pure 'on the edge of your seat' action and tension. The main plot of the film is that a gang kills a young girl. Then the child's father goes after the gang, kills one of the leaders, and runs off to a disused police station. The only people in the station are 2 police officers, 3 prisoners, 2 guards and 2 receptionists. The gang then gathers all its members and attacks the police station. John Carpenter's early effort sees a run down Police Station in an LA ghetto about to close and a newly promoted cop given his first assignment to supervise the closure. Unfortunately, a father who has just killed a psyopathic gang member for shooting his daughter, also decides to take shelter there.
