Beethoven (DVD) ... DVD released 24 September, 2002 at Universal Studios / Features of the DVD: Closed-captioned, Colour, Dolby, DVD-Video, Full Screen, NTSC, Widescreen / Put Charles Grodin together with a 200-pound Saint Bernard and you're likely to come up with some good laughs. In this popular family comedy from 1992 Grodin plays a beleaguered dad who reluctantly lets his kids keep the lost puppy they've adopted. The dog quickly grows into the huge and clever hound named Beethoven. In a marked departure from his nice-guy roles in several Disney comedies from the 1960s and 70s, Dean Jones plays the villainous veterinarian who abducts Beethoven to be a subject in his sadistic animal experiments. The kidnapping sets the stage for a raucous rescue and, of course, an inevitable sequel. Innocuous but harmlessly entertaining, Beethoven is one of those movies that some kids can't get enough of. --Jeff Shannon

Premium Review Beethoven (DVD): Roll over Beethoven (1228 words)

My four year old was into proper films at an early age. By proper films I mean actual people acting in a film as opposed to cartoons or computer animation. As he was also a massive fan of animals, especially dogs, Beethoven seemed like a prefect film for him. My daughter who has just turned two seems to be following in his footsteps, and having watched the film about 20 times in the last week I feel fully qualified to write this review. The film, Beethoven, is named after the St Bernard dog who stars in it. It begins with a couple of novice criminals breaking into the pet store where a very young and adorable Beethoven puppy is being sold. They ...

Premium Review The Good guys always win in the end! (125 words)

This is an excellent family film, with plenty of laughter and tears throughout. Beethoven is the family pet who is an extremely large ST Bernard dog. Beethoven is disliked by the father, as he slobers over everything, and he finds him a bit of a pain. The Children and mother however, love him. Beethoven is kidnapped by a laboratory, the story is basically how the family manage to get him back, lots of fun along the way, but also tears, as you think you can predict what is going to happen. It is one your children will watch over and over again, plenty of cute animals. This is a film I would definitely recommend for family viewing, a good one to hire over the ...
