Don't watch 'old' films? Hate black and white? Woried that it'll be a waste of money? Well just wise up and take the plunge. This is one of the funniest films ever made. Keaton is a genius. I havn't actually seen the DVD but recently saw a showing at the Royal Centre in Nottingham accompanied by new music composed and conducted live by Carl Davis and played by the Northern Sinfonia. The film is the story of an unfortunate loser who wishes to impress a girl with his bravery but by accident impresses everone with his nerve and resillience. The General tells the true story of Martin Cahill, an anti-hero thief and something of a modern day Robin Hood. Cahill remains constant to his own beliefs and principles, even if that means breaking the law whenever and wherever possible. His master plans to outwit the cops are so simple and effective you can't help but like the guy.
