Gone in Sixty Seconds (DVD) ... man whose nickname is "The Carpenter". Being young and cocky, Kip messes up, so it's up to his big brother, Randall "Memphis" Raines (Nicolas Cage), to come out of car-thief retirement and save him. With a cast that includes Robert Duvall, Angelina Jolie, Delroy Lindo, Cage and Ribisi, it would be easy to say this story wastes all their talents--which it does, but that's not the point. This is a Jerry Bruckheimer film. A good story and complex characters would only get in the way of the action scenes and slow the movie down. No, Gone in 60 Seconds (based on the cult 1974 film of the same name) is not about the stars as much as it's about cars. Fast cars. Rare cars. Wrecked cars. All cars. Too bad director Dominic Sena (Kalifornia) doesn't come across as more of a gearhead; he seems less interested in fast cars than fast cuts. But is this movie fun? Absolutely, and it's fun because it's so stupid. With pointless car chases and hackneyed dialogue in one of the most predictable plots of the year, Gone in 60 Seconds is a comic film that's not quite a parody of itself, but darn close. --Andy Spletzer, Amazon.com

The main thing about this film is the fast car aspect. There are some beautiful cars on show here, and some loud revving can only help to give a testosterone filled film that extra little kick. The 'gang' feel to the film is recreated when Memphis contacts his old crew to do the job, stealing 50 cars in next to no time at all. There a...more

gone in 60 seconds is a remake of the1974 version. i think it has lived up to the first film (which was not completed). this is a great film, with what i would say makes a film great. it has fast cars, well known actors and a lot of crashes. the story begins with kip memphises brother stealing a porsche, he arrogantly starts a street race and is seen by a police officer on the side of the road making a unrelated arrest. the police officer finds out that the car is stolen and in a couple of minutes the whole police force is trying to catch kips gang. kip and his gang make a exit and fortunately no one is arrested, however a not so pleased calitri ...

I wasn’t sure about this movie as to whether renting it out or not, but curiosity got to me and I got a copy. I watched it this afternoon and now I’m glad I rented it! The film has fighting, violence, car chases, Angelina Jolie and loads of action. What more could a bloke want? Well, yes, sex, I know, well there is a bit of sex in the film but not enough to get excited over! This is the kind of film which you can relax in front of, forget about thinking of any plot and just watch all the action and special effects….a blokes movie then, and yes, I think it is, infact I’m sure it is. I’m trying not to offend any of you nice girlies out there ...

I've been aware of the film "Gone in 60 Seconds" (GISS from now on) for years now. An old friend of mine used to rave about it when we were younger (much younger) despite the fact he could only remember one bit, and that involved one of those signs that scrolls across and gives out messages which was about 15 seconds worth of the entire movie. He could remember nothing of the plot in general except "it's about nicking cars". So, when I heard that a remake was in the pipeline, I had a chance to see what my friend was raving about without having to watch some crap mid-1970's low budget movie. Before I go any further, it has to ...
