Halloween 5 was the Halloween movie that could have redefined the Halloween franchise. After the twist ending that Halloween 4 provided the film could have steered onto a bold new path and delivered a new vibe and energy into the series. However despite everything being set up for them the filmmakers chickened out and therefore Halloween 5 does not turn out to be the possible turnaround for the series but an instalment that seems uninspired and rushed, which is not surprising as this was made just a year after Halloween 4 in 1989. In much the same fashion as the original Halloween film and its sequel, number 5 picks up where the previous one left us. After 10 years in a coma, Michael finally woke up to stalk his dead sister's 8 year old kid, Jamie. The fed up folk of Haddonfield had enough though and apparently blew him to bits in an exploding mine shaft. One year later though, and we see how Michael managed to swim his way to safety, and is now under refuge with an elderly tramp who lives in a riverside hut. Quicker than you can carve a pumpkin though, Myers is back in hot pursuit of his now muted niece, and laying carnage on anybody who dares to stand in his way. ...

Please note - This review is also available on my ciao page. Here we are for what at the time was just yet another horror sequel in a franchise that had long passed its sell by date! The series centres around psychopathic killer Michael Myers who goes on crazed murder sprees around that special time of year, Halloween. To give a brief view of what I thought of the previous films in the series: The original was atmosperic and is generally considered as one one of the greatest horror films of all time, the second was set instantly after the first ended and was truly abysmal and not even remotely intense or scary, the third was nothing to do ...
