In America, released in 2002, tells the story of a young Irish family trying to make a new life for themselves in Manhattan, NY in the early 1980’s. We begin to learn a little of this families past within the first scene; narrated partly by Christie the elder child. The family actually enter America illegally by driving over from Canada; coaching their two young children Ariel and Christie on what to say in front of the immigration officials. 'In America' is one of those films that captured my attention when I first saw it's trailers. Unfortunately not a lot has been said about it and it hasn't been widely advertised so many people are still in the dark about what it is actually about. I finally tracked it down on my online rental DVD shop and credit where credit is due, this is an amazing film. It met so many of my expectations and more.
