... and Grant seem to have swapped personalities. Having said that I couldn't imagine Richard Attenborough playing a crabby old-man. It's also a pity that the river scene was cut out, as it is very detailed in the book. I wish Spielberg had been a bit braver and killed Hammond as well. Still, he brought the T-Rex scene to life very well and it was genuinely scary. The scenes with the Velociraptors are also very good. Don't expect to see great palaeontology, as this has developed considerably since the movie was made,...more

Crowned Review A monster of a movie! (1230 words)

Rating:

(Film only review) What’s it about? --------------------- Asked to preview new tourist attraction Jurassic Park, a group of scientists find themselves in danger when the park’s animals – real life dinosaurs – start to run amok. Who’s in it? ---------------- The cast is headed up by Sam Neill as grumpy old-fashioned palaeontologist Dr Alan Grant. Neill does a good job (by blockbuster standards) of fleshing out Grant’s character, and it’s impossible not to like his easy charm and slightly cruel sense of humour. Vying with him on this front is Jeff Goldblum, superb as the cynical, world weary Dr Ian Malcolm. Arrogant, ...

“Ah, yes, Dickie, old chap, got a bit of project you might be interested in, old man … not, it’s not a follow up to Gandhi and no you don’t have to play a spiv … what’s that, old chap? … well, Spielberg’s involved and we’ve got a couple of decent young actors up for it, Sam Neill and Jeff Goldblum. Splendid, splendid. “What’s it about? Well, it’s some delightful old hokum about a mad theme park owner … that’s you, don’t y’know … name of John Hammond who’s a bit of a bounder, sees himself messing with the sacrosanct unwritten laws of Nature herself and ...
