Scream 2 (DVD) ... released 26 February, 2001 at Walt Disney Studios Home Entertainm / Features of the DVD: PAL, Widescreen / Fully aware of its status as the sequel to the surprise hit thriller of 1996, this lively follow-up trades freshness for familiarity, playing on our affection for returning characters while obeying--and then subverting--the "rules" of sequels. Once again, movie references are cleverly employed to draw us into the story, which takes place two years after the events of Scream, at a small Ohio college, where the Scream survivors reunite when another series of mysterious killings begins. Capitalising on the guesswork involving a host of potential suspects, director Wes Craven and screenwriter Kevin Williamson have crafted a thriller that's more of a Scream clone than a genuinely inventive new story. But the shocks are just as effective, and escalating tension leads to a tautly staged climax that's simultaneously logical and giddily over the top. Background information for trivia buffs: to preserve the secrecy of plot twists, copies of the screenplay were heavily guarded during production and restricted to only the most crucial personnel. When an early draft was circulated on the Internet, screenwriter Kevin Williamson did rewrites, and subsequent drafts were printed with red ink on brown paper, eliminating the threat of photocopying. None of the cast members knew who the killer was until the final scenes were filmed. -- Jeff Shannon

So while we are talking the conventions of horror, its nearly a set-in-stone rule that sequels are never as good as their predecessors. Scream set the benchmark for 90s horror by turning the horror film on its head, whilst applying all its own rules, and kick starting a new franchise. Scream 2 kicks off with a whole host of new characters, as well as the return of a few mainstays. Gail Weathers book about the original horrors has been turned into a film called Stab. Sidney Prescott is at university, and only see's some of her friends ocassionally. When murder starts at the campus where she is studying, Sidney soon finds herself back with Gail and Dewey as ...

Premium Review Sequels SUCK! Not this one though (570 words)

Anyone who knows me knows how i much i like this 90's horror film that i regard as the best horrror franchise set of films by my faviourite movie director Wes Craven. I tend to always say sequels ruin the first movie origianlly but this is a brillant exception. Watching every minute of this film is suspensful, thrilling and has you on the edge of your seat. You will be horrified one minute and laughing your head off to a one liner by a slightly comedic cast in a serious horror film. Scream one set the tone. It set the tone for what the movie was about. It was centered on a college student Sydney Prescott, whose murder had been murdered a year ago and raped who ...

Second in the Scream trilogy. Sydney is now at some sort of film college and is joined by Randy. She gets prank phone calls from people pretending to kill her. Meanwhile Dewey is hanging around the college(why???) and Gail Weathers has written a book about what happened in Scream, which has been turned into a film. At the film premiere two people are killed. Later on another girl is killed and then Randy. Cotton Weary is also hanging around campas trying to convince Sydney to do an interview on tv with him. More start to disappear and die and Sydney is put into a safe house. However she never makes it and is forced back to college where a copycat killer is on the loose. ...
