“ Brand: Babyliss / Type: Men's Shaver „
As a guy who suffers from terrible shaving rash, and one who has previously owned a couple of electrical shavers which left a lot to be desired, I decided to go for a stubble look and opted for this brand, mainly because of the price (I paid less than £20 at the time)
Now this is not a clean-shave shaver. It is designed simply to get stubble nice and neat, and there are several 'thickness' options. I always go for the closest trim because my facial hair grow pretty quickly (On a side note, this shaver is quite effective for trimming torso hair too but just make sure the skin is nice and moisturized before and after!)
My overall rating is 5/5 based on:
Functionality: Very light-weight, charge lasts for up to 16 hours. Water resistant so just wash it out under the tap and its good to go for the next time. My only slight gripe is that it is quite hard to trim stubble around the neck line as it is hard to get the angle right. Does not take up too much space in washbag either so great when travelling. Not all the noisy either (I also have a standard pair of clippers and they really rumble away!)
Price: Like I said, under £20 at the time of purchase and, for maintaining a neat stubble look, is far superior t any electric shaver I have ever had
Aesthetics: Looks very classic and sleek. Narrower than standard shavers. I've been using mine usually once every 2-3 days for 7 months and it still looks new
Overall this is a great little piece of grooming kit for creating an easy-to-maintain look that is stylish and on trend
After having the same old shaver for a number of years I decided it was time for a change. I had seen a number of adverts on television for the Babyliss i-Trim and it sounded like it was just the ticket.
Like a lot of men, I prefer to have some stubble (whether or not you could call it designer I'm not sure) mainly because a clean shave makes me look very much like a schoolboy! The Babyliss i-Trim does the trick. With a very self-explanatory scale between 1 and 15 so that you can choose your own length, the i-Trim allows you to maintain a very clean look just the way you like it.
Before using the i-Trim it is best not to shave for a few days so that you can shave to an all round similar length (this may mean looking a little mesy for a few days). Once you have used the i-Trim, it is very easy to maintain your facial hair at a specific length.
In terms of charging, I generally only use the shaver about once every 10 days with it set at 2.5 to 3 on the scale. With this, I find it only requires charging around once a month which is pretty good in my opinion. It is not really designed for very regular use and I would recommend looking at other products if that is your intended usage.
Overall, I'm very pleased with the Babyliss i-Trim and it does exactly as it says on the television adverts, helping to maintain a clean stubble look.
For Christmas last year my wife kept asking me for ideas of presents I would like and apart from a few DVDs there was nothing that I particularly wanted or needed, struggling for inspiration I remembered seeing the adverts on the television for the I-Stubble from Babyliss and suggested that she get me this.
What is it?
To put it simply it trims the facial hair around the moustache and beard area and unlike an electric razor that removes all the hair this actually trims the hair down and leaves behind stubble. Depending on the look you want to achieve you can set the blades at specific lengths varying from 0.5mm to 1.5 cm so you can have a close 5 o'clock shadow look or a lengthier trimmed beard effect.
How does it work?
On the back of the main unit is a dial control which you set to the desired length you want your stubble leaving at. The front of the unit has a push button which controls the speed of the blades and you can change the speed whilst trimming the hair depending on what part of your face you are working on at the time. For the neck and chin areas it is recommended that you use the quicker speed as the hair is normally more dense there and for the cheek and upper lip area use the slower setting as these areas are more sensitive. The instructions suggest that to get the desired results you are better off to set the length of the blades at a longer setting and work down to achieve your look, the reasoning behind this is that you can take off the hair but once it's gone you can't put it back on.
What do I get with the Trimmer?
As well as the trimmer there is a stand that the unit sits in whilst not in use. To charge the unit you connect the charging stand to the power cable which is supplied and there is a green light indicator on the front of the trimmer itself which when fully charged will illuminate. There is also a comprehensive instruction booklet which fully explains how to use the trimmer, a small bottle of oil in case you need to lubricate the blades after a period of time and a small cleaning brush to sweep out the hair that the blades capture.
What else do I need to know?
Although you are provided with a small bottle of oil the trimmer itself has been designed not to require oiling if you follow the care instructions carefully. The trimmers blades can be rinsed under a running tap to clean and are fully waterproof, do remember to make sure the blades are dry though, by keeping the unit clean and dry you should not need to oil the blades. The blades are extremely sharp so do be careful when using the trimmer especially round your nose and lips, work against the grain of your hair, not towards it and you should get the desired results.
My own experience:
I've used this trimmer a few times now since receiving it for Christmas and to start with it does take a little time to get used to. Being used to an electric shaver I found it hard to get used to the idea of actually leaving hair behind and found myself going back over the areas I had already trimmed. Luckily because the length settings are so accurate I was not actually taking any additional hair off but it did take a few attempts to get fully used to it.
I was expecting to leave patches when I first used the trimmer, but was surprised with the results it left. I made sure to take my time and fully go over all the areas that I wanted trimming and by being cautious and careful I was left with what I wanted. I think my face suits a bit of stubble and don't like the 'clean cut' look but on the other hand after a few days of not shaving I look a little bit too rough and raggy so this does give me the 5 o'clock shadow look that I like.
Charging the unit is easy and straightforward and the whole feel of the unit it solid and has a good weight to it, I half expected it to be quite plasticy and lightweight as this is the 'basic' model of the I-Trimmers but in fact it does look and feel substantial and more expensive than it actually was.
My model is the 7845U which cost just over £24.00, for the next model up; the 7855U you can expect to pay double the price, the only difference I can see between the two models is that the more expensive one has an LCD display with length indicator and selector rather than the manual dial control the cheaper unit has. For the price difference I would rather stick to what I have rather than the added cost of an electronic display.
The trimmer is OK for use on body hair as well should you desire although the thoughts of titanium blades near my more intimate areas doesn't sit well with me, for chest hair though it shouldn't cause too many concerns if that's the look you like.
For the money I think this is a valuable piece of equipment that is more than worth its price tag, it gives me the results that I wanted without messing around; the trimmer is quick, quiet and efficient and is ideal for anyone who doesn't want a full, clean shave. For tiding up a beard or goatee it is ideal and for trimming down sideburns it will be just as effective, all in all it was a good present for me which I would give 5/5 Dooyoo stars as a rating.
Available in Boots, Argos and even online at Amazon the price should set you back around £24.00 and is well worth it in my opinion.
Thanks for reading.
