I found a bottle of this lurking in a box of toiletries that hadn't been visited in a long time, so I thought I'd have a go with it as my legs and armpits were ready for defuzzing.
This seems to be a fairly unique product for women, promising both shave and scrub or exfoliating action. I actually think it's a great idea to gently exfoliate your underarms as it gets rid of the residue from these super strength deodorants (48H etc) we all seem to use these days.
The gel foams lightly but the magic about this is that you can still see where you are going as it is clear, I find this helpful on those hard to reach areas and so you can do a more accurate job.
Exfoliates and feels great
The small grains in the gel provide a mild exfoliating action but not too hard on sensitive areas. It also washes off easily when finished. Afterdwards I felt a lovely cooling sensation on my skin and it lasted a while which is much more preferable to a just shaved stinging feeling! This is explained in some of the ingredients: Aloe vera, chamomile, Tea tree.
I think the King of Shaves brand is best known for the products they make for men but I am really impressed by this shaving gel for women. Now comes the bad bit. I think it has been discontinued. At any rate it is hard to get hold of which is such a shame. I did find it online though, information which comes in the next paragraph. I wonder if women are put off buying a brand that sounds aimed at men although the bright pink packaging says otherwise!
Price and availability
On CaringChemist.com the product is available at £3.67 but I think you have to pay postage as well. I don't know how long I have had my bottle but it must be years.

I have stumbled upon a product which I would definitely buy if it was easier to get hold of. The shaving gel tube I have will last me ages as you only use a small amount of product each time. I loved the performance and got a really clean look using this gel and a new blade. For me the exfoliating action was a bonus with the gel and the lovely cooling sensation was lovely on my under arm.
Perhaps there was not enough hype at the time when this was in the shops but I was impressed by how this gel works. If you see it anywhere please let me know!
I am quite fussy when it comes to shaving gels and so whenever I see a new one out I tend to buy it in the hope that it will live up to my high expectations. Here is how the King of Shaves Woman - smooth and sensitive shaving gel did in its trial period at the jazzypinkpuppet house.
The shaving gel comes in a 175ml tube, it is quite unusual for shaving gel to come in a tube and after a couple of uses I realised why. The first downfall is that it is incredibly hard to get hold of when it is wet and your hands are soapy, it is too wide to fit your hand around the tube and so you can't get a good grip. The second problem I found with this style of packaging is that the hole was far to big and so everytime you squeezed the tube to get some out a great big hand full would be dispensed, not a good start for the king of shaves.
The shaving gel is a pearly white colour, I would say it is more of a cream than a gel as the texture is quite thick and firm. It glides on the skin nicely and how it goes on is how it stays, it doesn't foam up and whilst I do like a nice lather, I think this helped me achieve a closer and cleaner shave as there were not loads of bubbles and foam everywhere.
It says that it is un perfumed but it does contain aloe vera, Chamomile and white lily extracts, I think this gives the shaving gel a slightly medical aroma, I reminded me of the cream you have to put on when you have chicken pox. Its not entirely unpleasant just a bit unusual.
The shaving gel did leave my legs totally smooth and really moisturised, normally I need to put lots of moisturiser on as I have dry skin but with this I didn't need to use any, they soft and lovely.
The tube cost me £4.29 from Sainsburys, which is a bit more than your average shaving gel and taking into consideration the amount each squeeze gives you, I think it is expensive and not very good value for money.
I won't buy this again, it gave a lovely finish and a nice close shave but the tube packaging wasn't ideal and the cost is a big factor. I will finish the rest and continue on in my brave quest to find a perfect shaving gel.
I have been using 'King of Shaves' shaving gels for a long time.. even though they only recently brought out the version for women! My usual one is the green King of Shaves one for men, I have been using it for about six years now, I find it so much better than the foam you can get, and I love how it is so fresh and minty!
The King of Shaves Woman comes in 'girly' colours of pink and clear, as opposed to the blue and green colours of the mens shaving gels.
These are now widely available, though not as available as the mens version. You can buy them in Boots, Superdrug, and I have also seen them in Tesco. They costs around £3.99, but they are often on offer.
I personally have the pink version of the shaving gel. The shaving gels have little exfoliating grains in them, which exfoliate away dead skin as you shave. It also clears away any dirt and oil. The shaving gel is quite gooey and thick in texture, but is very easy to apply and rub onto your legs. The shaving gel has a wonderful mint smell, which is not surprising since it has aloe vera, camomile and tea tree in it!
The shaving gel is to be used within 18 months of being opened and comes in a single size of 175ml.
The shaving gel doesn't create much of a lather, but I quite like that. You can see what you are doing a little better than if you are covered in foam! I also find that I get a much closer shave using this that the normal shaving gel which foams up a lot. I also find that after I have used a shaving foam, my legs feel quite dry afterwards. With this shaving gel I don't find that at all. My legs are actually feel really moisturised afterwards, and I love the tingly, fresh feeling that this gives.
The shaving gel has also not been tested on animals, which definitely earns brownie points with me! The packaging is also recyclable.
I have been using King Of Shaves for over 6 years now and it's a brand that I will stick too. I have found it to be the best shaving gel I have ever used and I am really pleased that they have now brought out a girly version of it! I would highly recommend it, it gives a nice refreshing shave which makes your legs feel moisturised and wonderfully clean afterwards.
