Worth the money for anyone wanting to spend less time shaving

I've been using electric shavers for over ten years now and always thought that Braun shavers were the best. Recently owing to the birth of my first son, my wife and I hadn't been getting much sleep and the first thing to go was my shaving routine. As a result, I wasn't shaving for two or three days and I realised that my triple head Braun shaver was absolutely useless at getting rid of longer stubble and beards and was having to use my old razor as well as the Braun, just to get rid of the hairs that it missed.

In the runup to christmas I started looking for a new shaver and was surprised to see Panasonic made them... I'd always been pleased at how well my panasonic TV had been made but shavers are a far cry from plasma screens. Despite my misgivings I chose this shaver and haven't been happier with the result.

The Panasonic ES8249 has four heads that all flex very well around the contours of your face.

It can be used dry or with water, foam or gel.

The charging time is quite long - 45 minutes to one hour compared to only about five minutes with my old Braun, though I really don't see this as any problem.

There is a good display which tells you not just how much battery is left but also when the head needs cleaning and how long your shave has taken.

The stand for the shaver includes a handy washing system that allows you to choose if you want the shaver to be cleaned and dried when idle in addition to being charged.

The shaver socket plug takes 100v - 240v to allow you to use it on holiday (as long as it fits in their shaver sockets). It also unplugs from the back of the shaver stand so that you can plug it directly into the shaver itself (which is handy if you want to leave the large stand at home if you take the shaver on holiday).

The shave is the best I have ever had and seems even quicker (and certainly closer) than wet shaving, though you do need to keep the shaver relatively clean for it to remain really quick - about once a week seems to be enough.

In my experience so far with day to day stubble it only takes one pass over an area with the shaver, two for long stubble and maybe an extra pass for a beard for a clean shave.

I also used to have a lot of trouble with ingrowing hairs if I didn't shave for a few days, but it picks up most of those as well and any really trouble hairs can be sorted out with the handy trimmer on the back of the shaver.

I have been using the shaver dry normally, though I've tried it a couple of times with a wet shave - once with just water and once with foam gel. The dry shave seemed to be a little quicker to me, but a wet shave with foam was very gentle and leaves you feeling like you have had a wet shave with a razor but still seems closer.

This shaver is more expensive than a lot of others on the market and though it is not the dearest, it is on the high price end in the market.

The head is a bit larger than the Braun shavers I have been used to and has takes a bit more getting used to.

The charging time is quite long, (between 45minutes and an hour) - though this has not caused me a problem personally, for those on the go it may.

If you don't need to regularly shave long stubble or a beard then it may not be worth spending the extra money on this shaver for the amount of time you will save each morning. However the shave is by far the closest and quickest I have experienced with any electric shaver and if you don't mind parting with the money TOO much then this is worth every penny.
