Advantages: Very clean teeth, Build quality

Disadvantages: Mines noisy...

I got this thing as a present; I'd considered getting one in the past but never seemed to get around to it. As it turned out, I wouldn't do without it now.

If up till now you've only been brushing your teeth with a standard toothbrush, you don't know what your missing. The first time I used it I couldn't believe the smoothness of my teeth when felt with my tongue! My old brush immediately was retired.

You can buy the Braun electric toothbrush either as a standalone one for around £12.00 or bundled with a charger for £24 ish. This is the one I received. The charger is very neat (and waterproof) and is fixable to a wall or freestanding.

The actual toothbrush itsef is great - very ergonomic (!) and easy to clean. The brush is preset to run for 2 mins, although you can stop it before then if you wish. The end of the time is signalled by the brush stoping and starting rapidly which works well.

Note: You shouldn't attempt to 'brush' using this toothbrush - simply moving the head over the tooth, resting it there and then moving on is the proper action. Brushing up and down WILL cause you problems with receding gums and enhanced sensititvity. Trust me on this....

My only gripe is that my brush seems to be a little bit noiser than other people's. It seems to work as well, but noiser. Could just be me, but it's worth bearing in mind.
The brush also comes with two free heads - Braun recommends you change these when the blue stripe on the bristles fades to half - going by my experience, this takes about 3-4 months. Staying on the topicOf course, the brush heads is where you get stiched up, much like Gillette razor blades you do pay a fair bit to replace them. But then you pays your money......

Its also worth bearing in mind that Braun recommends you do not use whitening toothpaste with this brush. I DO use whitening toothpaste and it hasn't harmed it yet (although it may be t
he reason behind the noiser operation..)

Of the other similar models on the market, it seems to be the more robust one - I looked at the Colgate one at a comparable price, and it seemed flimsy in comparison.

A recommended buy.

I use whitening tooth paste on mine and never had any trouble. I wonder why they say that?

Interesting and well-written op. My gripe with these is the cost of the new heads. I'm sure they could bring the price down a bit more.
