Advantages: Excellent Cleaning
Disadvantages: Expensive
This was the first electric toothbrush I had ever used. Previously I had been a bit sceptical as to how effective they actually were. The Braun Oral B 3D changed this and has become one of the most useful Christmas presents i have had in recent years. Now onto some of the manufacturers statistics about the toothbrush. The small round brush head supposedly makes 20,000 pulsating (backward and forward) movements and 7,600 oscillating (spinning) movements per minute. Now there is no way I can substantiate these claims, what I can say however is that when turned on the brush head does indeed look like it is moving in both directions very quickly. When you put it on your teeth it also feels like the head is moving in the ways claimed. The brush I got came in a nice presentation box, rather than the usual plastic vacuum formed pack. Contained within the box was the toothbrush itself, 2 brush heads with a wear indicator built into the bristles, the recharging point which plugs into a 2 pin shaver type socket. On my model the recharging point comes with a brush head holder attached so you have somewhere clean to put the removable heads when your not using them. The brush has 2 really notable features which I feel I should mention. Firstly the brush has an in built pressure sensor which aims to stop you applying too much pressure to your gums and damaging them. If you press on to hard you can actually feel the brush slow down it’s movements to prevent damage. Secondly there is an in built timer which lets you know when you have been cleaning your teeth for long enough. After 2 minutes the brush turns itself off and on twice to let you know you should stop brushing. As far as the cleaning goes it is excellent. Maybe unsurprisingly I have found that the best results are achieved when using a good quality fairly course toothpaste, I use Crest. The brush really makes the face of the teeth sparkly and I have noticed a marked
improvement in the overall whiteness of my teeth since I began using it. Where this brush really comes into it’s own is getting into the nooks and crannies of the mouth especially towards the back. I have all my wisdom teeth and in the past I have found these hard to reach with conventional brushes. The 3D with its small head comfortably reaches the back and cleans with ease. The Braun Oral B 3D retails at around £40 with replacement brush heads at around £3. I know this sounds expensive but if it saves you the price and discomfort of a single filling surely it’s worth it.
