Advantages: Works well, good price, lovely teeth

Disadvantages: None for me

Since I am now using my second Braun Oral B Advance Power I thought it was about time I told you about it!

I originally purchased the first one because I have uneven bottom teeth and they never looked quite clean no matter how thoroughly I brushed them and, since beginning to drink red wine rather than white, the rest of my teeth began to look a bit jaded too!

I had been meaning to get an electric toothbrush for some time and when I received £20 worth of Boots vouchers for a birthday present I decided that the time had come to invest in an electric toothbrush.

I remember that my first reaction was to be surprised at the huge range of these toothbrushes available, and we only have a small branch of Boots here in Llandudno. The range of prices was a bit of a shock too; going up to over £100!

I decided to have an electric rechargeable toothbrush, which only cost me £9.99! I was amazed. I thought I would try this one and, if I liked it, maybe buy a more expensive one in the fullness of time.

The one I chose is the Braun Oral B Advance Power Rechargeable Electric Toothbrush - there's a mouthful! (Mouthful - toothbrush - get it?)

Anyway it comes packed on a piece of cardboard with plastic wrapped around it and contains the toothbrush handle, the toothbrush head and a charging unit.

All I had to do was plug in the charger and put the toothbrush on it for 16 hours to charge it fully and then it was ready for use. The instructions advise you to keep the charger plugged in and replace the brush on the unit each time you use it, but I tend to use mine for a few days and then recharge it rather than keeping the charger permanently plugged in wasting power.

The whole thing is about the length of a standard toothbrush with a handle about an inch in diameter, so it feels comfortable to hold.

The head of the toothbrush is circular and is about a centimetre in diameter and it spins when the power is switched on.

The instructions state that any toothpaste can be used with this brush. So that's good, no extra expense incurred in buying special toothpaste then.

You put the brush into your mouth before you switch it on to prevent any splashes that may occur and off you go.

It is recommended that you spend at least two minutes brushing your teeth although I have to admit I rarely spend quite that long! You should move the brush slowly around the mouth cleaning both sides and the top of each tooth and also the gums. You have to remember that there is no need to 'brush' up and down as the rotation of the bristle head does the hard work for you.

Don't be put off if you're gums bleed a little at first, mine did, but it soon stops once you get used to the new sensation.

Talking of sensations, the toothbrush does vibrate in your hand (ooer missus!) and I found that a bit irritating at first and the noise does remind me of the dentist, which is a bit off putting!

But the main thing is that this little treasure works and works well! My lower teeth look very different and the whole of my mouth feels and looks cleaner and healthier. You never know it might mean less treatment at the dentist and wouldn't that be good?
The bristles of the brush really get between my teeth and around my gums to remove every last little bit of whatever shouldn't really be there! I always rinse with Boots Smile mouthwash when I have finished brushing as well just for a completely clean feeling.

As I said earlier I intended this cheaper model to be a trial version to see if buying an expensive one was a good idea, but when it finally gave up the ghost after a couple of years hard work I went out and bought another one of the same model as I have been so impressed with it.

The instruction leaflet is clear and is all in English so no scouring through pages of obscure languages looking for the right bit! Incidentally I have noticed this with quite a few products that I have purchased recently, maybe the manufacturers have realised how wasteful it is to produce instructions is lots of different useless languages and are concentrating on the language relevant to the country where the product will be on sale.

Replacement heads are available for the toothbrush for a few pounds each and obviously you need to change the head as often as you would have changed your ordinary toothbrush. In my case this will be more often than most as I always use a lot of pressure when brushing my teeth and so my toothbrushes soon end up with horizontal bristles!

All in all I am really pleased with my purchase especially for the price - they are currently about the £12 mark - and I shall get another one if and when this one packs up!

Couldn't agree more, the only negative I find is the crazy length of time to charge (like you I don't leave it on constant charge).
