Disadvantages: Hard to clean, difficult to open initially
Getting a new toothbrush is one of those oddly satisfying moments in life, and that first brush is really a treat. From there on though, we all know that it is never quite as satisfying as the brush slowly spoils. So, I was very excited when I picked up this brand new Braun toothbrush, who are widely regarded as the best in tooth hygiene.
The first thing which I had to do was open it which sounds easy. When, actually it's not. It was in one of those sealed containers which don't appear to have any way of opening them. Instead you have to start hacking away with the scissors. This is obviously not ideal if the person opening the package is a young child or alternatively, an elderly person. Not a wonderful start, but it was all looking up after I cracked it out of the packaging.
Setting up the toothbrush for use was just a question of twisting the head in to place which was much more relaxing after the reliving of the Texas Chain Saw Massacre. Then, I popped the charger in to a shaver plug which are in most bathrooms and went out.
When I came in later, I unplugged the charger; a simple pull sufficed and then, set to work on brushing. The brush starts with a simple push in of the blue button on the front which was easy. I could see the cleaning power available as I watched the soft bristles whiz around like a Ferrari at Silverstone. Putting an electric toothbrush on your teeth is a very odd sensation initially as it feels like your phone is vibrating but in your mouth. The cleaning power of the Braun is not even up for comparison with a manual toothbrush. After each brushing, you can feel the smoothness of your teeth in every little hole and it really does leave you feeling fresh.
If there was a negative that I could state about this brush, then it would be that cleaning the brush head is very difficult and it does amass quite a bit of dirt every month or so. Although, you can just buy more brush heads which are relatively inexpensive at around £5 for a couple which is similar to buying a new manual brush every couple of months.
Overall, I could not recommend the Braun Advance Power 900 any more. It leaves your mouth feeling clean (and vibrated) and the difference in cleaning compared to a manual brush is not up for questioning; just a truly stunning brush at a reasonable price for an electric tooth brush of around £20.
