Oral-B Advance Power 900
Advantages: Very good at what it does, very cheap at first, very effective
Disadvantages: Very expensive heads, alittle heavy to take away with you
Ive had this electric toothbrush for about 5 years now and im so glad I switched from a regular toothbrush. As a child I didnt take care of my teeth and I had a terrible sweet tooth which as an adult has almost completely dissapated. But the damage stayed...4 fillings and 4 plastic coverings on my molars.
To say the least, I now take care of my teeth. Part of this means that I switched from an regular toothbrush to an eletric and you really feel this difference.
The Braun Oral-B Advance Power 900 has been on the market for around 5-6 years now, it is the bigger brother of the weaker 400 version. The hundred number relates to the number of revolutions that it spins out in a minute. It one of the cheapest electric toothbrushes you can get and seems to be one of the most popular models on the market, the two are probably combined. On amazon you can pick this baby up for around £17 plus P&P
But like most electric toothbrushes you buy it cheaply but the toothbrush heads are extremely expensive. For that price you get the toothbrush one head, which with the indicator will need replacng after about 5 months or so and a stand for the brush, which doubles as a powered battery recharger. This is a simple entry design model so there is no battery indicator, so I cant tell you about charging times, but I keep it plugged in over night and that seems to keep the power up for a good 3-4 days before a recharge is needed. The charge lasts about 5-6 days when you first buy it, but like I siad ive had it for a while, so naturally any recargable battery loses its effeciency. The charger is fully waterproof as youd expect
When you buy it there is a 2 year warranty. but I've had mine for much longer than that and ive had absolutely no problems whatsoever. The main selling point for these brushes is the high speed rotating brush head, which gently removes plaque and built-up stains and remove it does, its more of a kick then gently I suppose, this is much mor epowerful and it feels like a nice clean refreshing feel after the brush in this way it is mych more effective then a normal toothbrush.
Braun claim it is clinically proven that the brush cleans better than a standard toothbrush and that this cleanliness, helps prevent gum disease and as a user I have to admit that it feels this good.
The brush head is very soft, enough to clean and polish your teeth gently, but depending on what you want you can get a normal head or you can an interdental special which are bit bigger I find not so comfortable but these tips reach deep between the teeth and along the gumline. The brushes normally have a time limit indicator that turns from blue to white as time goes on, when the indicator is almost all white this is when you are surpossed to change the brush but they change colour after 2-3 months so I think this is tosh..just a marketing ploy to get you to buy more brushes more frequently. It is very easy to wash the scum off of he brush and easy to keep stored, although I find that I dont like to keep my brush on the toothbrush as the water can build up scum in the in between spots, so I always remove it, but you have to keep it off of the basin yourself, if your basin is a little like mine and a bit dirty sometimes. It would be really nice to have a kind of carry case to keep the brush clean. The brushes are generally smaler then a conventional one, so you get straight ot the back of the mouth and into the other parts you dont normally reach.
In terms of cost...man this is where they get you. Theres a reason why the brush itself is only £17, its because the heads are £16 for 4 heads in any boots! but ive found a solution, Amazon shows a company that sells replica heads, exactly the same as the oral b ones for far cheaper. 12 heads for £9 and the reviews are great, everyone says they great and do the job so I know what im buying with my next voucher !
Summary: A great mecahnism- well worth the cost
