My electric toothbrush - end of a love affair

Oral-B Professional Care 2000
Advantages: Much more effective than a manual toothbrush
Disadvantages: The ultra clean sensation it gives teeth initially soon wears off
I find I am falling out of love with my electric toothbrush. I purchased it about two years ago on the advice of my dentist as I was getting sore gums from pressing too hard with a manual toothbrush. I was also told it would give my teeth a much more thorough clean than my current brush. So I headed off to Boots straight away and purchased the most expensive Oral B toothbrush I could afford and luckily it was on special offer of fifty per cent off so it didn't completely break the bank. I think I paid £30 for it in the end so its retail price must have been around £60.
I was quite taken aback on using it for the first time. The vibrations it caused inside my mouth when I applied it to my teeth made my head feel very strange and at the time I thought I couldn't go on using it if it was always going to have this effect. Very soon I got used to this sensation and now don't notice it and wonder quite how I ever did.
The cleanness of my teeth after using this brush in comparison to a manual toothbrush was vastly different. My teeth felt as clean as they do when they are expertly cleaned and polished by a dentist. I found this sparkly clean sensation lasted for a long time and I was extremely pleased with the product.
To counter my previously harsh brushing the toothbrush would cut out if it was applied too firmly to my teeth, which aided as a good warning I was being too vigorous and also very usefully the toothbrush beeps and a red flashing light comes on to indicate it is in need of a charge.
The charger provided is a two-prong European one so you will need to buy an adapter in order to use it in this country so do not be caught out.
I still would not go back to using a manual toothbrush but I do find that over time the perceived effectiveness of using an electric toothbrush disappears. I mean that I no longer experience that ultra clean sensation my teeth had when I first started using the brush. I know this is because I am now used to it but I can't help feeling I am now looking for even more in a toothbrush. It may be time to upgrade it to a better model.
Summary: A great electric toothbrush but worth purchasing a more expensive model on the market if you can
