Advantages: Good value, cleans really well

Disadvantages: None

After a recent visit to the dentist I had a lovely scale and polish and my teeth looked lovely and white. My quest then began to keep them looking like that as it is hard being a tea and red wine drinker as well as a smoker!

I have always used manual toothbrushes so started looking at electric ones as they claim to remover twice as much plaque. Luckily I didn't buy one straight away as I was lucky to receive this toothbrush from my mum for my birthday! I wasn't offended as she knew I was looking at buying one for myself anyway!

**Features**

This toothbrush has a small compact round head. The head is made up of three different types of bristles which are blue, green and white in colour. The three different bristles are as follows:

*Flexisoft bristles that clean the teeth
*Interdental tips that clean between the teeth and along the gum line
*Indicator bristles that signal when the brush head needs replacing.

The head is designed to surround the tooth so that you get a deep clean.

This toothbrush is one of the more basic Oral B models as it only has one mode of cleaning. Once you press the start button the timer gives you two minutes of brushing. These two minutes should be split into 30 second for each quarter of your mouth. Once the 30 seconds has passed the head will vibrate to indicated this.

This brush also has a pressure sensor built into it. If you press too hard the pulsations will stop to prevent you damaging your gums.

The pulsations of this tooth brush are 40,000 per minute which loosens the plaque. The head also has 8,800 side to side movements per minute to sweep the plaque away. Blimey, that's a lot of movement going on in your mouth!

**Price**

The recommended retail of this toothbrush if £49.99. Oral B are currently running a special offer though and many of their brushes are half price so this one was £24.99. A real bargain!

**My Experience**

I must admit that having used a manual toothbrush for nearly 30 years this one did take a bit of getting used to! In places it really tickled my gums and nearly made me sneeze! I also thought that the two minutes seemed to go on forever and realised how poorly I had been brushing my teeth before using this! I did get used to the sensations after about a week I'm pleased to say and now have no more 'gurning' whilst brushing my teeth!

Once the brush is charged it remains so for up to two weeks based on use twice a day. I have found that ten days is more realistic. This brush comes with a mains charger but the plug is two pronged designed for bathroom shaver sockets. I do not have one of these sockets so had to buy an adaptor for a standard three prong socket. These are available in Boots and from memory it cost approximately £3.50.
The toothbrush comes with two heads. This is handy if you want to share the toothbrush with your partner and have a head each. If it is just for yourself then you get a handy spare!

The toothbrush is quite lightweight and easy to grip. The back of the brush is ribbed plastic so it doesn't slip out of your hand if it gets wet.

The other thing I found is that you don't need to use much toothpaste on the head. The first time I used it I used too much and ended up foaming at the mouth! I looked like I had rabies! You only need the amount of a small pea to get a good clean.

**Summary**

I can honestly say that I am an electric convert and will never go back to using a regular manual toothbrush again! The timer ensures that you clean your teeth thoroughly and not just guessing the correct time. The pressure sensor is great too as I was concerned before when using a manual brush that I was damaging my gums by pressing too hard.

My teeth feel lovely and clean after using this toothbrush. It's similar feeling to when you have had a polish at the dentist as they feel lovely and smooth. My teeth also seem to be a bit whiter after having used this for a few weeks now.

Overall I would highly recommend this toothbrush!

Summary: A great electric toothbrush.

I use both types, manual and electric. Strangely, I find I can remove more plaque with a manual brush, although it takes longer. Perhaps it's a question of technique or maybe my (Philips) electric brush is not as good as the Braun Oral-B Professional.
