Oral-B Professional Care 9000 Deluxe
Advantages: Thorough cleaning
Disadvantages: Model may be hard to get hold of now
I've never been a slacker in terms of brushing my teeth, always brushed them after breakfast and before bed. Unfortunately, my lack of ability to stay away from chocolate and sweets has left me with severely decayed teeth.
Though obviously the best thing I could do is stay away from that, I don't think that's going to happen, so the next best thing that I can do is to ensure I brush my teeth the best I can.
I asked for this for Christmas about 3 years ago now. It may seem an odd and/or boring thing to ask for, but I think it's always a good idea to invest in things that you use daily and electric toothbrushes have been proved to be much more effective due to the thousancs of rotations that it undergoes per minute.
At the time this was over £100 but now I imagine you could get it for peanuts as it has been superseded by other newer perhaps more advanced models.
In the box is the toothbrush, the stand, a travel case, charger and a spare head.
You can use a variety of toothbrush heads from the Oral B range, such as the Precision Clean, Floss Action and many others. This is purely a question of personal preference and you can use the different heads on a daily basis leaving the others in the stand which is quite convenient.
There is space for four heads in the stand. I just use it for spares but obviously should you wish to do so, you could in theory use the same toothrush body and have a different head for each member of the family.
There are only two buttons on the toothbrush, one is the power on/off button and the other is the mode button. This is where you can change the mode of the brush, so you can put it to Sensitive or Whitening for example. I don't tend to bother and just leave it on the Daily Clean mode.
The toothbrush shows the power level on the screen. There are four bars and as it runs down to one bar, the power of the toothbrush reduces. I don't like this so always try and keep it on 3 or 4 bars. If you do run it down fully, I think it takes about 20 hours to fully charge. I charge it about once a week.
On the Smartguide unit, once you start brushing, the clock starts counting up to 2 minutes and as you reach every thirty seconds, the quadrant on the screen is lit up. The idea is that you work it round and whent he 2 minutes are up and you have finsihed, the competed circle turns into a grinning face. Continue brushing for another 30 seconds and he turns into a laughing face or gives you a wink.
I dont' like the fact that the screen lights up the quardrants in the same order all the time. I think it ought to vary it to make sure that every bit of your mouth gets equal attention first of all.
If you brush to hard, putting too much pressure on the teeth, a warning light will flash up on the screen telling you to ease off. It also advises you when you need to put a new toothbrush head on and of course, when you aren't brushing it acts like a normal digital clock which is handy in the bathroom.
I've been using this for some years now and am happy with it and sure that it does a better job than a manual brush would do.
This would be a good buy or the updated alternative.
