Advantages: Cheap, Affordable, Easy to Use and Good Battery Life.

Disadvantages: Works on a shaver plug socket.

In the past I had always sworn by the good old fashioned manual toothbrush. But after having been bought one of these Oral B toothbrushes for my birthday, I was wholeheartedly converted.

It has a really fast and powerful circular brush stroke that really whizzes around your mouth and does ten times the work of a manual one and in half the time. The toothbrush heads themselves are detachable and lasts for ages before going frayed.

The battery power is good but isn't amazing, probably lasts to full strength about a week, if you brush twice a day, and then slowly winds down. You really need to charge it up regulary, which can be a bit annoying if you forget. Also, the charger plug is one of those shaver ones, so if you don't have a shaver outlet, you'll have to buy an extension plug in order to charge.

The nice aspect to this model is that it tells you when 2 minutes brushing time is up, with a stop start vibration, as apposed to the normal consistant one. This gives you the knowledge that you've brushed for long enough, without having to worry or time yourself.

The Oral B toothbrush is miles better than your average manual, and cheaper than most electric toothbrushes out there. You can buy the product from most high street stores and supermarkets such as boots and tesco so its easily accessible and the brushes are usually stocked along side.

I guess the proof is in the pudding, and yes, my teeth do feel decidedly cleaner since changing from manual to electric, and, having been sceptical from the start, I wouldn't say that lightly.

Summary: Much better than a manual brush for keeping gums and teeth clean with minimum effort.
