Advantages: A good, cheap battery operated toothbrush

Disadvantages: None really

I have used over the last couple of years a rather substantial electric toothbrush which cost the earth. However recently this one broke and I couldn't afford to replace it with something similar so had to go for a bog standard cheap model instead.

I opted for the Colgate Actibrush electric toothbrush because it was one of the cheapest on the shelves in Tescos and with it being made by Colgate, I presumed that it would have to be of a high quality and as Colgate are a leading brand in the dental world, I also knew that it would only do positive things for my teeth.

This toothbrush is battery operated only and uses two 2x AAA batteries which are supplied in the toothbrush, but they are pretty cheap and nasty and only lasted me a few days. I have tried cheap batteries in this toothbrush but these too only lasted a few days so you do need a decent make of battery to last a good while in this toothbrush.

The toothbrush has a dual action head with a small circular brush at the top which has quite a harsh texture and a larger circular brush underneath with a less harsh texture. The top brush helps to make sure the brush gets right in between the teeth to give a thorough clean, whilst the larger brush does a more general clean and helps to whiten teeth.

Considering this toothbrush only cost me £6.99, it does a really good job. It obviously doesn't match the speed or intensity of my more expensive previous toothbrush, but then it is a fraction of the price. When the battery is full though, it gives a really good clean and leaves your mouth feeling clean and refreshed.

This toothbrush has no other added special features. You simply have an on/off button and that's it. The brush heads are reasonably small so you have good control over where the toothbrush is cleaning and it is easy to get into harder to reach areas at the back of the mouth with a smaller toothbrush head. This toothbrush makes it really easy to ensure you are covering all areas of your mouth.

The toothbrush has a rubber base which makes it easy to grip and control the toothbrush. It doesn't come with any spare heads, but they are available to buy separately for around £3.20 for a pack of 2 which I don't think is too bad and if it is of importance to you, you can get the toothbrush with different colour bases, though the neck and main part of the toothbrush is only available in white.

Overall, I would highly recommend this toothbrush for anyone looking for a cheap battery operated toothbrush. It gives a great clean and is really easy to guide into hard to reach areas of the mouth ensuring a good, thorough clean and it gives a good polish too. It has an easy to grip handle and small brush head. My mouth feels really clean and refreshing, giving me the confidence to know that I have sparkly clean teeth and fresh breath and all at a very low price. It is a well made toothbrush and doesn't feel at all flimsy or lightweight. This is a great toothbrush, made by a well known manufacturer and one that I would happily purchase again.
