Advantages: Improves health of my Gums
Disadvantages: No indicator when losing power
When my electric toothbrush stopped working I really felt unable to justify the expense of a new eclectic toothbrush so took myself on a trip to Home bargains and noticed the Colgate motion for £5.95. While one of the more expensive toothbrush's in the shop it did seem a good compromise as I really didn't want to revert to a manual toothbrush.
The brush does come in a range of colours blue, Fuchsia, Purple and green however Home Bargains only had an option of blue. It comes wrapped in thick plastic so you are able to see what you are buying. My concern was that unlike my previous toothbrush it has two heads on. The second head is designed to clean between teeth and the gum line. As my gum line is receding as I get older I hoped that this would help my problem.
It has a curved handle which is designed to be ergonomic and while I take these factors with a pinch of salt after all how hard is it to hold a toothbrush for two minutes it is actually more comfortable than my previous straight handles toothbrush.
The Toothbrush is powered by battery power and has the standard on and off switch. I used a normal amount of toothpaste and although I felt it wasn't as powerful as my previous toothbrush I did find when I initially used the toothbrush I found that it was making my gums bleed. This actually though not a great sign for the health of my gums it is also a sign that the toothbrush is doing the job it is designed to do. After about 3 weeks the bleeding seemed to subside and although I haven't visited a dentist since purchasing the brush I do feel my teeth are healthier. . The batteries are supposed to last about two months. The difficulty with a battery operated toothbrush is that like with any powered toothbrush it slows down slowly and with my rechargeable toothbrush I would charge it every week with an electric I tend to wait till I notice the difference before in power which is usually later than it should be. I recently changed my batteries which is simple enough to do by removing the lower Casing. It takes 2 AAA batteries. I did replace it with good quality batteries as I don't want it powering down quickly. I was surprised when I replaced the batteries how more powerful it was and felt I had left it far too long to replace them.
One thing I do like it that the heads are also replaceable. Dentists do recommend that you replace the head every three months so this does prolong the life of this Product.
The toothbrush is designed for children over three with adult supervision but I do think the size of the head is a little too large for small children's mouths and would prefer a toothbrush designed for children for my four year old son.
Overall I have been very happy with this product and value for money. I would however at some point like to upgrade to a rechargeable toothbrush with dual heads.
I have found these for sale on Amazon for £9.99 so it is worth shopping around.
Summary: A great brush for the price
