Colgate Spider Sense Spider-Man Toothbrush
Advantages: convinced out boy to start brushing, child friendly, free batteries,
Disadvantages: brush a bit big for his small teeth, a bit pricey to buy every three months
We had a constant struggle for a while to get Noah to brush his teeth. He doesn't like the taste of toothpaste, he doesn't like the feeling of the brush, and when I beg him to brush his teeth, he comes downstairs and lies that he done it. We tried getting a better cherry flavoured toothpaste but the dentist said he was too old for that kind of stuff now and needed to use proper fluoride toothpaste.
We bought this for £7 from Instore and we thought it was a really good deal. Noah took to it, picked it up, and looked at it in the shops (usually his hint that he wants me to buy him it) and seemed to take an interest. I was absolutely gobsmacked that the took to a toothbrush and we were actually beginning to think he had a phobia of them.
The brush has a Spiderman logo on it and it looks very child friendly. It is a great idea to get kids to brush their teeth as the excuse "do you not want to try your new super cool toothbrush?", usually works a treat. For the first few days he was very keen on using his new toothbrush, it almost made me cry to think he was away brushing his teeth and I didn't need to convince him to do it or bribe him.
The brush has one bit that swirls round and the bottom half of the brush is just like a normal toothbrush. This is great as it ensures all his teeth are brushed. I think this brush is a little too big boys as he has started to gets cuts in his gum, and he had to take him to the dentist to see about the possibility of gum disease. Thankfully, it was just the brush was a bit too big for his baby teeth.
The second we clicked the button to switch it on, Noah was mesmerised by the drilling sound as wobbling of the brush. He laughed nervously at the new and cool toothbrush but he took straight too it. Many of you will know Noah is disabled (mentally for the most part) and therefore had bad speech, but when he wanted his teeth brushed he makes a drilling/aeroplane noise, whilst moving his hand over his teeth and laughs. I think it's amazing that he wants to brush his teeth just to feel the vibration of it.
I have to say the brush is a bit big and bulky, and with Noah being so slow and having a body much smaller for his age, he does get a bit frustrated when his hand is too small to (comfortably) fit around the brush.
The brush does go pretty fast, and with him having such a small mouth, I thought there should be a much slower rotation, and sometimes the speed does blow him away a little bit.
The doctor said we should change toothbrushes every 3 months, so it would help if you could buy replacement heads for it and it was too expensive to keep buying over and over again. You are given batteries with it, which is great as they last the whole three months no problem. They may not last longer than that, but you shouldn't keep a brush longer than that.
Overall, a fun and child friendly brush that gets them into the swing of brushing.
Summary: We love it.
