Colgate Spider Sense Spider-Man Toothbrush
Advantages: Encourages a child to brush their teeth, good power, well priced
Disadvantages: Head can't be replaced
Any parent of a young child will know that it can be a right pain trying to get them to brush their teeth in the morning. A friend recommended to me that I try getting my son to use an electric toothbrush as it had worked for her son and they had now eliminated any issues regarding teeth brushing in a morning.
I decided this was a good idea and found a Colgate Spiderman Themed one on Amazon. I expected this toothbrush to be quite expensive as I know adult ones are, but this one was just £6.12 with free delivery so I was really impressed. This is a battery powered one, rather than an actual electric one but it does the same job so that didn't bother me in the slightest.
The required batteries come already with the toothbrush so you don't need to purchase any to make it work. My son was rather happy with his new toothbrush and had never been so eager to brush his teeth! I did wonder at 7 years old if the design would be a little young for him, but he was perfectly happy with it so I presume that Spiderman must be pretty cool for a 7 year old lad! I would personally say that this design of toothbrush is more aimed at boys than girls as it just has that 'boyish' look to it and is mainly blue with the spiderman picture surrounding the base of the handle.
I own a proper electric toothbrush which is quite powerful and it did concern me that if the childs one was as loud and powerful as my adult one, he may not like it. I needn't have been concerned though as it was quite a quiet buzz which didn't startle my son at all and the brush itself must have had just the right amount of power as my son said his tickled a bit but again, it didn't bother him or concern him at all.
When I asked to look at his teeth when he had finished, I have to say that looked pretty clean so as far as I was concerned, his new toothbrush had done the job. I did notice straight away that my son spent longer cleaning his teeth with his new toothbrush than he ever had with a manual one which I was impressed with.
I really like the fact that this toothbrush comes with a nice, small head so you know that children with the smallest mouths can get right to the back easily and make sure they brush every inch of their mouths without missing the back teeth. The handle is a good, easy to grip plastic handle which isn't too lightweight that the toothbrush feels cheap and flimsy, but isn't too heavy for a younger child to manage either. This is a really good quality toothbrush with bristles of different sizes to get right into all areas of the mouth.
If Spider Man isn't your childs thing, if you search Amazon you will find a vast array of different designs of battery powered toothbrushes aimed at younger children.
Overall, I have been really impressed with this toothbrush and would happily recommend it to all. It is a really attractive toothbrush to a child and although we still have the odd whinge from my son, generally he is far happier to brush his teeth now than he ever was. The power is just about right as it seems to do the job well, but without being too harsh and powerful on a little ones teeth and gums. Every child is different, but my son personally loves the ticklish feeling the toothbrush gives him and he now finds brushing his teeth quite fun, which is something I never would have had should I have carried on with a manual toothbrush.
I also have piece of mind that this isn't just a gimmicky object, it is made by Colgate who are a leading brand in oral care so I know that this product can only be having a positive effect on my sons teeth and mouth. He has used this toothbrush on a daily basis for a while now and it is still going strong. The batteries seem to last forever, even though it is used twice daily. My only gripe is that the brush head isn't able to be changed and you are supposed to change your brush head every few months which is a bit of a shame.
All in all though, I have been very impressed with this battery powered childrens toothbrush and I would highly recommend it to all parents with children of a similar age as mine as it really has made getting him to brush his teeth a far easier process.
Summary: A good battery powered toothbrush for kids
