r>A couple of months or so ago, I received a free Crest Spinbrush through my letterbox after I agreed to take part in a survey about it.

Crest is a brand that I?m quite familiar with having used some of their product range over the years. I had complete faith in this toothbrush as I have had no problems in the past, so I was quite pleased to receive this freebie.

The Spinbrush, yet another electric toothbrush to grace our supermarket and chemist?s shelves promises to revolutionise the task of tooth brushing, and claims to be completely different to its competitors.

My first impression of the Spinbrush didn?t give me the impression of being completely novel. It looked like any other electric toothbrush on the market, except it has two brush heads instead of one; a round one at the top and below that a slightly larger one. The purpose of these two heads is to give the teeth a more thorough clean as the small round brush spins rapidly and the lower head moves up and down. Both these movements mimic your action when using a regular toothbrush, but this toothbrush does it for you.

The actual toothbrush is fairly chunky in appearance, almost giving it a clumsy impression. It has a chunky bottom, much like my good self and it tapers in towards the top. When holding the brush it moulds into your hand like a dream and feels very comfortable. The plastic is smooth to the touch, and it has an anti-slip surface so when wet the toothbrush doesn?t slip around in your grip.

The first time I switched on the brush I was surprised at how loud it was. My old electric toothbrush was really quiet, but this one was really noisy. The sound is very mechanical and has been likened to the noise of another electrical gadget used by some in the bedroom. My husband made this comment; I would never have even suggested this. :O)

The switch is located on the front of the brush and there is only one speed setting; fast. Simply push
the switch upwards and that?s all there is to it. Located in the centre of the switch is a little button. Pressing this acts as a pulse button, similar to that on a food processor. The moment you release your finger, the toothbrush stops.

The brush heads should be replaced every 6 months, just the same as regular toothbrushes. You can buy replacement heads from most chemists and supermarkets now stock them too. They can be found on the shelf next to the electric toothbrushes and they come in packs of two. Expect to pay about £5.99 each for a twin-pack. To remove the brush heads simply twist anti-clockwise and pull. The heads come off really easy and are just as simple to replace.

As I mentioned earlier the only downside of the Spinbrush is the noise. The brush cleans my teeth extremely well and no effort is required by me. The bristles get into all the gaps nicely and you can really feel the brush heads doing their thing. The brush is quite powerful, but is not too intense. The noise is quite deceiving as I thought at first it would be uncomfortable on my teeth, but it?s quite gentle, but tough on plaque at the same time.

The Spinbrush requires 2 x AA batteries to work. The battery compartment can be found at the base of the toothbrush and removing them can be a bit of a job. You need a bit of strength to take off the cover, as it can be quite stiff. Replacing it is a lot easier and takes hardly any effort at all.

The batteries have lasted quite well. I have been using this brush twice a day for over 2 months now and still there seems to be plenty of power there. Watch this, I?ve just said that so what?s the bets my batteries will die on me over the weekend.

Because the Spinbrush was a freebie I didn?t have to pay a penny for any of the components, even the batteries were included. These brushes are widely available and you can pick one up for around £8.99 for an adult?s brush and about £4.99 for a
child?s. Bear in mind that several shops do have them on special offer where you can BOGOF. There are a variety of colours to choose from if you want to buy one for each member of your family, and there are even spinbrushes designed for children in mind. My daughter has a Disney Swan Lake and we have bought a Spiderman one for Craig when he?s a bit older.

Since I received this brush I haven?t reached for my old one at all. It remains dried up and lonely sitting on the bathroom shelf. My teeth have never looked or felt so good and it takes very little effort in keeping them like this. The price of these brushes might be quite scary when you think about how much you can buy a regular toothbrush for. But I have always taken great pride in my pearly whites and I think every penny spent on them is worth it. Once they?re gone there?s no getting them back so you have to look after them.

I've never actually tried an electric toothbrush, but have often been tempted. This may have swayed me...
