Advantages: lots!

Disadvantages: cost

I switched from a manual toothbrush to a rechargeable several years ago and am really pleased I did. My Oral B rechargeable toothbrush cleans my teeth far better than a manual brush ever could. The one downside to using this type of brush is the high cost of the replacement brush heads. I always shop around before buying and then buy several packs when they are on offer (which luckily they often are).

Oral B make several different types of replacement brush heads but I always buy the basic no frill ones known as clean brush heads. Each brush is individually packaged and comes with a small coloured band that you will need to fit onto the brush head. This makes it easy to identify each individuals brush. The bands can be a bit tricky to fit but once in place they stay put! The outer plastic packaging is also quite tricky to open and you will need a pair of scissors. The product really is over packaged!

Once the brush is fitted with its coloured band it is ready for use. The heads fit easily onto the Oral B toothbrush. The new versions of this brush claim to have 25% more bristles than older versions although I cant say I have noticed any difference! The small round cup shaped brush has flexisoft bristles that are gentle on your gums. The inter-dental tips are designed to get into hard to reach places as the brush rotates. You really don't need to brush hard with this system- just move the brush over each tooth including the backs and it will do its job brilliantly!

Oral B is made my Proctor and Gamble who claim that using their system will remove far more plaque than using a manual brush. Each brush head has darker coloured bristles in the centre and these will turn paler when it is time to change the brush head. I find this really useful as a reminder to buy replacements.

The Oral B precision clean brush heads will fit most Oral B electric toothbrushes. They are widely available and the price varies . I bought my latest pack of 4 from Boots and paid £10.99 . I expect these to last for about 3 months, although my youngest son tends to press too hard making his brush heads need replacing more frequently!
