Advantages: It is cute and appeals to kids making brushing teeth more enjoyable
Disadvantages: Replacement heads can be expensive
Both I and the kids have electric toothbrushes now after our dentist recommended we switched. Instead of buying a plain white one for my son I decided to make it a little bit more fun and get him a character one that was especially designed for children. Being a huge fan of Pixar films which we own on DVD I bought him the cars character electric toothbrush as both cars and its sequel are two of his favourite movies. I wasn't naïve enough to believe it would make getting him to brush his teeth a stress free event in the mornings and evening but I was hoping it would make it a little easier.
I bought the toothbrush from boots when they had a half price event on their electric toothbrushes. This meant I paid £17.49 for it instead of its usual price of £34.99. Boots often have these sales on their electric toothbrushes so it pays to wait and get it when it is on offer.
The toothbrush comes with a base and changeable heads on it. It is red and blue and for some reason reminded me more of spider man than it did cars. Well the base did anyway because the heads actually have pictures of the cars characters on them. It is bright and fun looking and I can see why it would appeal to kids. Anyway my son loved it and it was the first time I had seen him excited to brush his teeth.
He was a little disappointed that we had to charge it overnight first before he could use it. The toothbrush takes ages to fully charge but this is the same with all electric toothbrushes and mine is exactly the same. Once it is fully charged then it should last a week or so with using it every day.
The toothbrush is quite powerful and it did take my son a little while to get used to the strong vibrations and to begin with he didn't like it very much. Once he had been using it for a week or so though it wasn't a problem and he quite enjoys the sensation and he says he likes the fact that his teeth feel really clean and when he runs his tongue along them they are really smooth.
Just like my adults oral-b electric toothbrush this one has a timer to tell my son that he has been brushing for the required amount of time. It goes off twice to let him know that he has spent a minute on the top teeth and it is time to move to the bottom ones.
The brush heads are designed for use for children and have softer bristles on them than the adult's ones. I could feel the difference between the head of this one and my own one. This is to make it gentler on children's gums.
The heads themselves need to be replaced every three months or so and there is a strip on the brush that tells you when it is time to replace it which is good as I always lose track of how long they have been on.
The toothbrush does come with a two pronged plug as it is designed to be used in the bathroom so if you don't have an electric razor socket then you will need to buy an adaptor but these are cheap enough and can be picked up for around £1.
Over all this is an excellent toothbrush made much more so when it is on offer. The only problem with it is that replacing the heads can be quite expensive but after searching online I am now paying only £7.99 for a replacement pack of two heads which is much cheaper than it is in the shops.
