Oral-B Stages Disney Cars Power Electric Toothbrush
Advantages: Good quality toothbrush for children
Disadvantages: Could have made the body more fun looking. Expensive in comparison to other similar products
I am a huge fan of my electric toothbrush and genuinely think that the condition of my teeth have improved immensely since I started using an electric toothbrush a few years ago. My son, like any other 9 year old child is a fan of sweets and therefore it is imperative that he keeps his teeth clean and brushes twice a day. Just like any other 9 year old boy though, he doesn't see the importance and sees brushing his teeth as a chore so to make sure he did it properly, I have purchased a couple of battery powered toothbrushes for him.
I haven't in the past purchased really decent toothbrushes for him as he has been swayed by the appearance of the toothbrush and what character it shows, rather than the quality of the brush itself. For his birthday last year, we took him to see Cars2 and he loved it and has watched it a few times since on DVD and still really likes the film so for his birthday this year, I purchased him the Cars electric toothbrush.
It may sound like this is just another cheap, cartoon inspired kids toothbrush from my brief description, but the one thing that attracted me to this toothbrush for him is that it is from the Oral B kids range and therefore I knew that the quality of the brush itself would be good, as well as being fun for him to use as it is 'Cars' themed. The main body of the toothbrush is royal blue and red so it isn't aimed at a specific gender of children and is therefore perfect for both girls and boys. It has a picture of the Cars characters around the neck of the toothbrush and this is all the toothbrush has on it that refers specifically to the Cars film which I thought was a little disappointing and thought they could have made more of the body itself which is plain and features no decoration at all.
Some similar toothbrushes he has used in the past have had a really cheap and flimsy feel to them, but you don't get that with this one at all. In fact, it is quite the opposite and this is quite heavy for a kids toothbrush and it feels really well made and sturdy.
The base of the toothbrush is quite large and thick, making the brush easier for younger children to grip. It has a long thin neck and a small round brush head which is perfect for little mouths and it means children can really get right into the back of their mouth to clean all areas of the mouth thoroughly.
The fact that it has a cartoon theme, doesn't mean anything. It doesn't make any special noises, light up, or do anything that would attract a child into brushing their teeth more eagerly, but it is just more fun for them to look at than a plain, boring white one like you get as an adult and I have to say, it does work as my son was rather impressed with this toothbrush when he opened it and was pretty keen to use it, though the novelty soon wears off when they realise it is just a ploy to get them to brush their teeth!
This toothbrush is mains charged and has a charge time of 12 hours from completely empty to full charge. It claims you have 5 days charge in between charges and I would say that is a pretty good estimate (that's with brushing twice a day, for two months each time). The one thing my son noticed was the intensity of the brush in comparison to the other ones. He said this one 'tingles' a lot more than the others which says to me it has a stronger vibration and is therefore a more powerful toothbrush which is good as it means it will do its job well. He wasn't convinced by the extra power when he first used it but once he had gotten used it, he found the vibration quite funny and it did encourage him, for a while at least.
The toothbrush even has a brushing timer on it which tells you when you have brushed for long enough which I think is a great feature in kids toothbrushes as my son has a habit of brushing for literally 10 seconds and telling me he is done. Not anymore! I tell him now he has to keep brushing until the timer tells him he is done and he does!
The price of this toothbrush is £17.49 from Boots, which is more expensive than other similar battery powered children's toothbrushes, but this is by far the best I have purchased for my son and I can see this one lasting well so although not cheap, I would say it is definitely worth the money.
Overall, this is a great kids toothbrush as it is bright and colourful which a child will find attractive, but it is also a really good quality toothbrush which will ensure your child's teeth and mouth get a thorough clean each day which mean their teeth and gums will stay healthy and you really can't put a price on that so this toothbrush comes with a recommendation from me.
Summary: A really good quality childrens electric toothbrush
