Advantages: Helps whiten teeth, has handy timers

Disadvantages: Replacement heads are expensive, you need an adaptor plug

I have very sensitive teeth and gums, so was nervous about trying this toothbrush as having heard my housemates' electric toothbrushes, they sound rather harsh and aggressive.

Appearances, or rather sounds, can be deceptive. I experienced absolutely no pain or discomfort while using the toothbrush. I also found it useful that it not only indicates when the recommended 2 minutes' brushing time is completed, but also adds 30 seconds after this point on a special whitening setting.

I use a leading brand of whitening toothpaste in conjunction with the brush, and I also have a colour chart which I received free with a whitening kit some time ago. My teeth are already one shade whiter, after 6 uses of the brush over 3 days.

In terms of storage, it is useful to be able to wrap the cord inside the charging unit to minimise space that it takes up and also not to damage the cord. However, a big oversight on the part of Philips is the omission of a spare head for the toothbrush as the packaging has 2 moulded spaces so I expected 2 to be included. Another more significant missing item is an adaptor for the plug of the charger; it is a 2-pin so you need to find an adaptor in order to be able to charge and use the toothbrush.

I was impressed by the travel case though, and will definitely be making use of it. Until now, I had been buying supermarket own brand manual toothbrushes to take away with me so I could just leave them at the hotel. However this looks easy to keep clean and safe while in transit.

It is also worth mentioning that the manfacturer recommends changing the head every few months. This is a sensible suggestion, but the price of the spare heads means that it will cost about £30 a year.

Overall, this is a very good toothbrush, especially if you are keen to achieve and maintain white teeth.

Summary: A good electric toothbrush.
