Philips HX6731 Sonicare
Advantages: leaves teeth feeling great
Disadvantages: a bit pricey
I bought the Philips Sonicare HX6731/02 toothbrush last year for my partner as a birthday present (although I benefit from it as well) and it has been a revelation since.
Inside the box you get the electric toothbrush, a small carry case, a charger, a protective cap for the head and 3 coloured rings to put on the bottom of the head in case there are a few people with separate heads for the toothbrush.
When you first get the toothbrush out of the box the first thing you need to do is to charge it. This is simply done by plugging the 2 pin charger into a shaver adapter which then goes into the wall. Charging time is about an hour and once this is done you are ready to go.
Using the toothbrush is very easy. Once you put the head on, you just need to select one of the three programs by pushing the green button the until the light is on the desired program. The three programs are:
* Clean: this is two minutes of normal cleaning. Every 30 seconds the toothbrush pauses for a split second so that you know that you need to move to another part of your mouth so that you get a good overall coverage. If you put too much pressure on your teeth as you brush then the unit will stop until you release the pressure a bit. This is good because it reduces the chance of you damaging your teeth.
* Sensitive clean: The same as clean but you cant put as much pressure on your teeth before it stops.
* Clean and Whitening: The same as clean but you also get an additional 30 seconds at the end where the speed changes and you are supposed to focus on your front teeth.
Once the program has been completed, the brush will automatically turn itself off.
I must say that this has made a massive difference to me. For many years I used a manual brush and every time I went to the dentist I was moaned at. Since using the electric one, I have been to the dentist and there have been no problems. My teeth feel better overall, my gums don't get sore or bleed and in general my mouth feels cleaner.
In terms of charging times, it gets used by two people twice a day and we only charge it once a week at most so its very handy if you're going away for a few days.
The case is also very useful. The case can take the toothbrush and 2 heads which is another benefit if you go away.
The only negative is that if you want to buy any replacement heads, then these can be quite expensive. I bought some recently and I think I paid about £15 for three.
In terms of price, I paid around £60 which is a lot of money for a toothbrush but it does a good job!
Overall, very happy with this and very glad I bought it.
Summary: Well worth it
