If you want to try beating a game without a memory card then good luck to you! However, for us lesser mortals this is a necessity and so this is when the often ignored device comes into play.

Since being released in 2000, it has been completely recommended that you get one of these memory cards. After all, saving your progress is part of the fun of gaming and the Sony memory card is tiny so can be carried around. It is 8MB. I have never actually filled mine up despite having a rather large game collection nor have I ever had issues with this branded type of memory card. In the past I have used cheaper types of memory card only to have my data corrupted or for the memory card to simply die for no reason.

It doesn't look special. It is 2inches long and 1 1/2 inches wide so only small and are black (matches the Playstation 2 console I guess). My only problem with it is that being so small, mine have often disappeared into my drawers or on my desk only to be found months later hidden in some shadow :)

They used to be very expensive. I recall paying around the £25.00 mark when I first got my Playstation 2. However, now they are around the £12.00/£13.00 mark:

I have also found them cheap on Ebay but at the above prices, it might be worth paying more and having an guarantee with it.

I cannot stress the importance of owning a memory card if you play games! There is nothing more frustrating than needed to replay area's over and over again, and this helps to get you through those awful moments in gaming. Yes, this memory card isn't as cheap as some other brands out there but I have never had an issue with corrupt data etc. Would definitely recommend spending a little more and having peace of mind.
