Advantages: Reliable

Disadvantages: Very pricey

The 8Mb Playstation 2 memory card is a must have for any PS2 owner. It provides a massive 8-Mb of data store, some 8 times larger than the larger PS1 memory cards.

I have recently got my PS2 and have found that it is virtually impossible to play any games to the full with out the memory card. I have hired a number of games and have found that many do not allow all the courses/tracks/ character to be unlocked, unless you complete parts of the games, e.g. coming first in specific tournaments. This can be very annoying because many games won’t let you see the new courses unless it can save to the memory card and for sure you will have to complete the game again when you turn your PS2 off.

The new PS2 memory cards are also a vast improvment over the PS1 memory card. They are now about 25o times faster, thankfully they now will save much quicker. Also when the internet comes along downloading and saving these files will be much quicker.

So which type of memory cards are best, third party or the officaial Sony memory cards?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
**Official**
The official memory card made by Sony is the most reliable out there. The small light card is black, which adds very nicely to the colour scheme of the console. The official memory card is for sure the best in quality. You may have to pay extra, but you will not find it loosing data like the cheaper third party memory cards.
Third party
The third-party memory card like the Gamester type do offer a high capacity memory cards at a very reasonable price. The Playstation 2 memory cars usually retail for about £15, a brilliant price for those who are a bit short of cash.
I have found though, in the past that this card can very easily loose their data. If you put
the card in or take it out at the wrong time, then they can annoyinly loose there saved games. If you have valuable save games, I wouldn’t recommend this type of third party card. Paying that little bit more will guarantee you reliability.
-Unreliable
Usually cots about £15
So it's up to you which one you choose, but if it was down to me I would get the offical card, you want reliablity if your a serious gamer. If you have a PS2, then you must be a seriouse gamer!
But if your looking for a bargin (Half price PS2 memory card) then take a look at the unofficial memory cards.
